Hi Nigel.. Thank you for your invaluable advice so far! I've read your book as well as followed videos and have found that *spoiler * it works! I do have something I would like advice on though . We have a 7 year old rescue cat who was slowly thawing with the addition of our now 7 month sproodle. The dog has been amazing at staying calm around the cat (cat is super wary and hisses when pooch gets too close) but the dog is a bit obsessed with following the cat around. The last few days this has spilled into a bit of a fight instigated by the cat. Normally the dog just doesn't do anything but doesn't know what to do and we can get in between and distract the dog. We were doing well so started to keep dog gates open and they could tolerate being near each other, but now I'm winding it back a few steps because the dog started to chase back the cat and got a bit growly with her. She obviously got clawed by the cat but it's undone the progress we made. Dog gate is back closed. I am distracting dog when cat is around with a bit of training. Do she knows the cat is there but is focused on me instead. I don't want to be worrying about keeping them apart when we're not around. I don't know if you have any advice?
  • It is truly a pleasure watching your videos. We apply your training every day with my dog Bruno, a Welsh Terrier. He's smart and he's learning a lot. Thank you for all your videos. I'm looking forward to watch many more!

Appreciated your video on addressing dogs barking at door to protect us. If you ever cross the pond, I've got a Blue Heeler who is a handful! I'll keep watching. Thank you.

There are countless canine trainers on the internet, but only a small percentage are both excellent trainers as well as excellent teachers. Thank you for sharing so much wonderful content.

Problem Behaviors 1) Swarming guests at the door. 2) Muzzle Punching out of excitement. 3) Attention barking for playtime. Tips on any one of those would lovely. Thank you for what you do Nigel!
  • We have a rescue dog since october, so the series with Dante was really helpful and encouraging for me. Looking forward to the video on chasing animals! I would love to see more tips on this topic. Off leash walking is impossible for us, for this reason :( Otherwise his recall is OK, but when he sees a cat/rabbit/deer... he seems to forget that I exist.

I really admire your patience with the dogs. I have a Romanian rescue dog and although he has calmed down significantly, we’re still struggling with reactivity towards other dogs. He is also very protective of us, which causes problems. Any tips on that perhaps!?
  • I have never owned a dog that didn't 'love everyone', until now. She has been through various training from puppy manner to advanced tricks. She is an amazing girl, does great in so many way. However, she 'airbites'. Not always, but anytime is too much. There's a couple of people she just isn't warming up to, and if strangers approach her when we are out on a walk, she barks. How do I reassure her that if I say 'it's ok'.. it IS ok?
  • Hi, Nigel. Your class has been wonderful for our Cairn Terrier, Benji. I haven't seen you address resource guarding, yet, which is a big issue for him. Would that be a topic you would consider?

Thanks Nigel, we’ve recently re -homed a Parsons Russell Terrier, she’s a lovely dog but very reactive with other dogs. Your advice and videos are very helpful 😀

I seem to recall seeing a video I believe you put out in the past about how to help dogs learn how to eat or take a treat from your hand without chomping your whole arm off. Would you think about doing a one minute video on that? Also, I spoke to you in the past about this, but I am a working professional and work very long days. I would love to have a canine companion someday, but don’t know how I could make it work with my busy Monday through Friday schedule. Are there good adoption options for a person like me? Thanks so much for your videos and book!

Thank you Nigel for your training tips. I just recently found them and bought your book last week. The videos are awesome and have really helped me with leash pulling and barking/lunging at my front window. I have an 8 month old GS mix and he's wonderful but socialization has been hard with covid protocols & lockdown. He's a bit shy and will bark and lunge at people who approach us. He doesn't do it on walks when people walk past, or when he meets people with their dog. He only seems to feel threatened by people who walk up to us or if we approach them. Any tips or suggestions would be much appreciated. Thank you!!
  • We have a rescue dog who is 19 months old and he has been with us for just over 3 months. He is a miniature schnauzer a and has now settled reasonably well at home with our other 2 dogs of the same breed. He is very affectionate ,loves to play and is a delight in many ways. However he is clearly anxious about many things outside the home and will bark at anyone even 50 yards away in a ferocious manner. He responds very well with dogs off lead in an appropriate manner but the second the owner approaches he will try to lunge and jump at them continually barking until we are a good distance away. In watching your videos that I have recently discovered I can see that I have gone too fast in taking him out for walks I had naively thought that being with our other calm secure dogs he would copy them to a certain extent. We do not know what happened to him as a puppy but it would seem that he is extremely frightened of humans and their voices particularly deep ones so we can only assume he has been physically as well as emotionally abused. His continuous barking really gets us down but we feel so sorry for him and determined to do what is right for him. Your videos have already helped me and I wondered if there was any other suggestions to help him with his fear when he seems to have really bonded with us and comes happily to us . How can we help him to learn that we won't let anyone hurt him again. I sit just patience and time ?

You are the only dog trainer I follow on You Tube. No E-collars, no prong collars, no pinning to the ground to establish fear based dominance. Your approach is truly enlightened.
  • Whatever you give us is always a gift thank you for all the help still use the bathroom for naughty barking works a treat
  • @Lasanie
When on leash, our dog wants to walk to people. He doesn't pull crazily but always in their direction. Off leash, no problem. Maybe a 60 tip on that?

Hi, watched some of your lead training videos, I love your teaching style. I haven’t looked through all your playlist yet but any help with a puppy getting used to another dog. I currently have a 5 and half year old beagle and brought a German shepherd puppy into our family. They are not too bad together and have played but the gsd just keeps pushing it too much with the beagle and it starts getting more aggressive. The beagle is giving warning but it’s not taken seriously. I have tried burning off the new puppy’s energy before they be together but still the same problem. Done distraction with toys but gsd just wants to keep pushing it with beagle. Will this behaviour get better over time maybe? Any help from others appreciated. 🙃
