Everyone's a critic! But I think we can all agree that these six games are "ugly." Though that's not necessarily a bad thing. But do these games PLAY ugly too? Well...

I sleep better with the Auto-mon in my dreams... and with a matress! Thank you Helix for sponsoring! Visit helixsleep.com/lockstin to get 20% off your Helix mattress, plus two free pillows. Offers subject to change. #helixsleep

I think the first one might’ve been originally made in Spanish, seeing as the duck had “pato” (Spanish for duck) in its name, and the shrimp had “Grenada” which is grenade in Spanish. That might explain some of the names you couldn’t figure out. (Note I know very little Spanish so these explanations may not be valid).

"Hierbas" means herbs in spanish. No pun or anything.
  • It's kinda nice that Lockstin is trying to be a lot more polite about this game - lots of people have a habit of just going "THIS GAME IS BAD" but you're talking about why they're bad, and what things you like. This is very nice.
  • @LordEpos
...So what you're saying is that if I make a creature collector game, and put it on steam, Lockstin will eventually play it? Interesting....

18:17 That "water drop" looks like a JRPG style slime to me.
  • Monster Catching King is indeed an RPG Maker game. It has the RPG Maker UI(In black and White, for some reason), but the sprites and tilesets were drawn. C+ for what effort was there? TP stands for Technique Points, and is also a staple of RPG Maker games.

15:39 "Oh no, nazi ants!" is something I have never expected to hear in a Lockstin video. borb

Not gonna lie you got me with that. I always love your sponsorship videos but when you said you don't I was really surprised what would be the reason 😂
  • @digifreak90
16:05 I can confirm that that is very much an RPGMaker game. You can tell by the menu style (which is the default style, just in greyscale). Also, TP is a default (albeit optional) mechanic in RPGMaker.
  • @timwoods2852
Ah, a classic example of the one that looks like it has the least effort actually being the most polished and playable.
  • @kingmagikarp97
There's a Pokemon like app game called workmon, I'm surprised that wasn't in the video
  • @TheSmartboy64
Got to play Monster Sanctuary. Still has the monster collecting. Still has all the battling. Yet it improves the formula very well with its skill trees, 3v3 team combat, and having resistances/vulnerabilities unique to the monsters, not types. That game needs more love.
  • @vegladex
Yeah, Monster Capture King is definitely an RPG Maker game, I recognise the assets and the ratios. Also if you liked Automon and wanted a version that not so... "ugly" and takes itself a bit more seriously, Kadomon is a game I've seen a couple of other Youtubers play which has pretty much the same auto-battler "pokemon" game system.
  • @longbui8061
Lockstin be playing and making vids about every Pokemon-like games, even the obscure ones, except for Yokai Watch.
  • Would love to see a video like this but for the actually really good "Pokémon like" games
  • @cevichegrace
Automon seems like a good version of Pogo battles
