There are a lot of Inanimate object pokemon, and they always tend to be a tad controversial. In this video I hope to explain why The Sword Pokemon exist! What is Honedge based on? What is Doublade based on? What is Aegislash Based on? and so-on!

  • Honesty, I never really understood the object mon hate myself. They're really not so bad. Especially since Chandelure is pretty universallly loved from what I see
  • @hecatia666
It was funny being online and see the changes of opinion happening about Aegislash People HATED it because it's an object possessed, after some time people LOVED it because: 1. Sword 2. Ghost 3. Competitive Monster 4. Edgy 5. Potentially cool nicknames 6. Shiny colors Humans are such mysterious and confusing creatures

I honestly don't get it. I actually like the ones that are objects. After all, there's nothing wrong with a variety of all kinds. Even if it's just objects. Also, the idea of cursed objects isn't as crazy as you think. I know a lot of different ones that I could see becoming new Pokemon at some point.

The Vanillite line aren't even real ice cream. They're just icicles covered in snow. Though I imagine the ice cream shapes and the simple cutesy faces are meant to invoke the image of old-fashioned restaurant mascots - y'know, classic kitschy Americano. And hey, maybe Ghost is one of my favorite types because they can reasonably be just about anything - dolls, yokai, balloons, coffins, candles, jack-o-lanterns, piles of sand, costumers, tea sets, stealth bombers, Izanami dragon, etc.

I remember when Honedge was first revealed a lot of people began to draw all sorts of people holding it in various poses, ready to fight with their sword pokemon. And then the dex entry for Honedge about it absorbing the soul of who ever holds it's hilt was revealed and everyone did a collective "eggghhhh. Oops."

If Aegislash has a future Paradox form, imagine that thing having a laser blade and firing beams from it.
  • @Redenem
Fun fact: The German names of Honedge and Duoblade make some additional references to mythical swords. Honedge's name, Gramokles, references yet another sword from norse mythology, Gram, which was used by Sigurd to slay the dragon Fafnir. The name Gramokles, and also, Duokles, Duoblade's german name, also reference the Sword of Damocles, which is pretty fitting. These Pokemon are literal Swords of Damocles, constantly putting their own weilder's life at threat by absorbing their life energy. (also Aegislash's name is Durengard which is probably a reference to the Durendal)
  • I actually never minded the object Pokemon. Maybe it came from watching Dora the Explorer as a toddler. While I never used it, I think the Aegislash line is cool. EDIT: I know about Legends ZA Also if you ask me, the biggest mistake Pokemon did was the lack of a Pokemon Z

I just noticed that when Aegislash is in Shield Forme, the dots on its shield turn white like eyes like the pre-evolutions, which makes the pattern around the circles look like teeth, so the shield is actually three faces that share three eyes, and I cannot unsee it now.
  • @evilmandrake
Who the Heck hated the Aegislash line? Apart from the awesome Ghost/Steel typing, they're super powerful and look pretty cool.
  • @500werewolf
Even if you hate "object pokemon", the Aegislash is one of the best of all of them. Not only because of how recognizable it is as an object, but also the inspirations its pokedex entries are pulling from. If you hate the Aegislash line because its an "object pokemon", you just hate "object pokemon" in general. Besides, its not like complaining about it is going to undesign all "object pokemon" and replace them with "true pokemon designs".

While the Gilgamesh from the Epic of Gilgamesh might not be known for using weapons, Gilgamesh in the Final Fantasy series is all about that. He goes around collecting the swords of every Final Fantasy protagonist, so in that way, they might also be referencing Final Fantasy's Gilgamesh.
  • @ARDIZsq
The Aegislash line is genuinely one of my favorite evolution lines in the series. I started with X, and seeing Honedge for the first time was just incredible. Gen 6 really is underrated, and I’m happy to see it get even a little recognition
  • @thewalrusclown
15:59: The Franks actually named there county after the best hand weapon they made, The Franshecan battle axe, France.
  • 12:25 I just realized if you wheeled Aegislash the 2 spikes on his hilt that act as shoulders might just dig into your arm while holding it and do more damage to your then you're opposite so maybe draining your life force is code for bleeding
  • @Castersvarog
I remember some old fan art that interpreted the Honedge line as insects that gripped and infused themselves into swords. It was a really cool interpretation of a Pokémon, especially how unique it was
  • @JumpNShootSH
the abstract object pokemon have always been way more creative than "look, it's a dog but fire/electric"
