I have a kindergarten student that dresses every day in her own style. Last week she came to school with a dress and cowboy boots along with a paper crown she had made. Another day she wore leggings with rain boots a tee shirt and an apron that she liked. I love her style and her attitude that goes along with it.

ā€œLife is short, why am I not wearing my good clothes.ā€ This hit me hard. So true!
  • @eunoia1016
There is a young girl that works at the local library and she does stand outā€¦.she dresses like she stepped out of the 1940ā€™s. She has a figure like Jane Russell (actress) , she wears the side hats with the one feather, seamed black nylons ā€¦skirts and blouses. Red lips and yes the librarian glasses.

I owned 3 pairs of pants and 4 tops in high school. I will never go back to minimalism. I love my overstuffed closet, like a miser with his gold.
  • One of my history professors had a formula where she wore the same thing on the same day of the week. I always admired her level of self confidence in not caring that she wore the same dress to all our Tuesday classes. I make a point of dressing well every day, even if no one sees me. I abide by the words of P. J. O'Rourke: "Never wear anything that panics the cat." :)

For the first time in my almost 60 years I cleared my closet and only have spring/summer hanging in it. I turned the hangers backward so that Iā€™ll know what I did or didnā€™t wear by the end of August. I will donate what I donā€™t wear. Itā€™s a step towards cultivating a more streamlined wardrobe. I am looking forward to achieving a smaller and well-defined wardrobe that I love wearing every day. Thank you for showing us how to curate and enjoy such a small but distinct wardrobe. šŸ’•

In a world full of opinions and noise, you boldly (and beautifully) own your style. That is my favorite thing about you and your channel! šŸ†

First, I love the ten item or so wardrobe concept. Secondly, I love the jean and shirt outfit , too. For a while I stopped watching your videos. I thought they had a harsh tone to them. Recently, Iā€™ve started watching them again, and enjoying them immensely. Where I differ is wearing your best at home. I like to approach life in a pragmatic way. I dress for my lifestyle. Sometimes videos like these can make women feel bad about themselves and what they wear at home. Most men wouldnā€™t think twice about what they wear at home. When my husband comes home from work, or works in his office he is definitely in his home clothes. When I come home from work the first thing I do is change my clothes. If I wear nice clothes at home I will often put off doing messy jobs, especially since I have ruined several favorites. Now, when out and about I think itā€™s respectful to dress accordingly, but at homeā€¦ Iā€™m like Mr. Rodgersā€™s I like the transition from the outside world to my home world.
  • I love the 10 item wardrobe. For me itā€™s more like a 20 item wardrobe because I live in such a varied mountain climate. The method has served me very well for the past decade! I implemented it when my son was born and now he is 10! Time flies when youā€™re having fun! šŸŽ‰
  • I cannot do 10 items, I can do 20 for each season. Watching you share tidbits about your style has made me understand my own style. I am an English teacher and I love to wear pretty unique pieces of clothing that match my glasses. Iā€™m a book ready to be opened. I am very picky and have a great style for each season. I did declutter the closet though and now have more room to see all the pretty things I have!! Thank you
  • It's so nice to see more people dressing up. I love getting dressed up for church and Bible study, and just to go to the grocery store, it's fun to where my nicer clothes, and I often get compliments. I definitely have more than ten items, and a lot of my things are classics that I found at thrift stores, but I agree life is too short not to where your favorite things.
  • Jennifer, I have been watching you and reading your books for years. However, I never took real action steps on the 10 item wardrobe. I have made a little progress in the past, but I keep falling back into old patterns. I am 44, and I dress like I did in 8th grade. šŸ˜¢ Sweatshirts and jeans. This video felt like the kick I needed.

I'm putting together my ten item wardrobe. So far a game changer. So grateful white tennis shoes are a fab fashion statement. Because of cancer, I deal with neuropathy and nerve damage that shoe fashion is very limited. I'm going to try a pair of slides that you've showed in a previous 10 item video. thanks for the content.
  • We used to watch the television show,ā€Madam Secretaryā€ and the title character always wore the most beautiful blouses, mostly with a tailored pant suit,I think. They looked silky but always classy and classic, and never too low cut or see through.šŸ™ŒšŸ»
  • @am1156
I don't think I've ever felt so inspired by any fashion video or article. I don't even know if I agree or not. But you've made me think and FEEL (!) something about clothes for the first time in a very long while.
  • @harpo627
I love this, and appreciate the encouragement to never mind what people think. Iā€™m an old soul, I love dresses and skirts, and I take walks in the neighborhood every day. Sometimes Iā€™m self-conscious that people probably think Iā€™m weird, but I do it anyway because itā€™s me. I love the idea of how having the courage to express our true style invites others to express themselves, too. To stop being invisible in depressing, drab duds. Iā€™m sure some neighbors do think Iā€™m odd, but Iā€™ve had a few lovely compliments, and actually no criticism, come to think of it. One man said he had noticed ā€œthat angelic womanā€, another, ā€œyou always wear such pretty dresses!ā€ ā€œYour hair is so beautifulā€ etcā€¦ I am no model, but I hope that is encouraging to anyone else a bit shy to stand out. I think dressing well is a way of infusing joy into the world for others. Itā€™s giving beauty, color, delight into our surrounding space, the way flowers and leaves and birds do. Itā€™s not about wanting attention, but giving joy. Itā€™s not about thinking we are the stuff, but offering what we have and are.
  • I have read your books and love the concept. I follow your channel so I decided when we were going on our vacation in april, I would try this concept. We were gone for 3 weeks- my husband turned 50. One week it was just the 2 of us in the Dominican Republic; then one long weekend in Orlando with our adult children, grandson and my husbands parents to visit Disney and Universal Studios. Then finally 10 days or so alone before coming home. I was amazed - it felt so good not to be so overwhelmed due to overpacking. I think the "paradigm shift" for me was when we were in our VRBO rental house in Orlando. I hung up my clothing in a walking closet and it had just my items. It was beautiful and relaxing and enjoyable to get ready every morning for Disney or whatever adventure awaited us for the day. When I came home and this is still in process, I put away all my winter/ not in season items and working on scaling down to a 10 item wardrobe (maybe just a few more than that) LOL but wow!!! Im thrilled. Thank you for your videos and content. I enjoy tremendously.
  • @AniaBumba
Thank you for this video, Jennifer. I need constant reminding because I struggle with dressing nice. I was recently taking out my summer wardrobe and putting away my winter clothes and I realised that I have so many clothes that are too small and I have to give them away. They are all nice clothes that I hardly wore and I just thought to myself, why didnā€™t I just wear them when they were a good fit and when I liked them. I was ā€œsavingā€ them for a special occasion whilst spending most of my time at home wearing joggers and an old jumper. Now, they are hardly used and I am giving them away. It is madness.
