I love my X mid 2!! Best tent for the price! 2.4lb tent for $280. Fits two 25in pads. You can’t beat it.
  • @DevinSchiro
I imagine Dan Durston will show up in the comments soon to rectify about 85% of the criticisms levied in this video with helpful tips and thoughtful explanations behind his design.
  • 10 months ago you were saying how it was the best…sold out
  • @RayHikes
First thing that's said is "It's a single wall tent" The regular double wall Xmid; "Am I a joke to you?"
  • I had high hopes for this video, especially considering the enticing thumbnail. I anticipated a thorough revisit of the tent, complete with physical demonstrations of the issues you've encountered. After all, it was your original video on the tent that led me to purchase the X-mid 2, which has quickly become my favorite tent. While I acknowledge the large footprint and learning curve in pitching the tent, the overall tone and message of the first 10 min of this video seem somewhat off-putting. 😬

LOL! To each their own, my dudes. I love my X-Mid 2P! I sleep on the diagonal and let my dog and gear have the low corners. After two years of steady use, it has served me well.
  • The one item I never hit the trail without is my Thermarest Z Lite Sol. I cut it in half (36””) and it has many uses - sit pad, yoga pad, bath mat when washing the body, extra insulation under my inflatable pad, as a wedge to level out sleep area, collection pad when unloading my pack (great when it’s wet out), wind break for the stove, star gazing pad (lay on it, look up), door mat in vestibule. Yeah, I love my Z Lite Sol!

I don't have the Pro version, so I don't recognise a few of the problems they talk about. It have excellent moisture management (although no tent will ever be completely dry every night) and easy to pitch tight. But of course, no tent is perfect, every tent has it's trade offs. Hands down, my Durston tent is the best tent I have owned, for it's weight and for winter camping! In all other areas, I have tents that is comparable. But it's still an excellent tent in most circumstances.

I love my Durston X-mid and have had it ever since it was only available on Drop. I don't experience any of the issues that were mentioned, pitch, sag, layout etc.. not even much condensation with the vents open.
  • Got a Durston X-Mid Solid 2. Last time I looked, it was double walled. This feels like a hit piece.
  • @kriskirby1468
I actually really love this video, feels like I’m just sitting in the backseat getting to listen to two very experienced backpackers just talk to each other casually, no script, no agenda, just organic conversation. Led to some really cool moments that probably wouldn’t happen in a typical scripted video that I really enjoyed hearing, especially Dan’s experience going back to the Grand Canyon, being vulnerable like that for your audience is so valuable appreciated! Also, nice to hear you guys just kind of talk back-and-forth about different gear that you like and dislike, and the reasons why are without any kind of agenda!
  • @flutingaround
Have either of you two used the XMid Solid 1 or 2? I used it in the Alps and Iceland last season and it was amazing. It's very affordable compared to the Pro series, and it's double walled.

I really enjoy your videos and have learned a lot about backpacking, new brands and legacy brands that I had previously dismissed that have upped their game. Your self effacing sense of humor is entertaining and makes the hobby more approachable. I don’t take all this social media stuff very seriously and rarely post a comment but I do enjoy your videos.
  • @Anon90210
Great video Dan. Always enjoy when you and Eric are together. The video left me feeling I was just on an hour road trip with the 3 of you. 😁
  • Totally happy with my 2 year old Thermarest NeoAir Xlite Regular (72”) wide (25”) (4.6R value), 2.5in thickness. Have over 100 nights use and it still performs beautifully. My first NeoAir had a baffle problem and Thermarest sent me a brand new one. Great warranty and great customer service. No need to change when it totally meets my needs!
  • I love my X-mid 2! Where else can you get a spacious 2 person tent that weighs around 2 pound tent for $280?
  • @mymoonny
Love this channel so much good information. Very entertaining and great people. Only wish there was metric measurements on the screen somewhere so I don't have to stop and convert to know what you're talking about.
  • Good discussion gentlemen. I have the XMid Pro 2 (original version) and for me it is great solo tent. There are a few quirks with it and I do find my ZPacks Atlaplex easier and faster to set up, I use the ZPacks when I know my sites could be tight for space, but the Xmid has more room. Both companies make excellent tents and it comes down to what you like and need.
  • @jasonnicks819
You two guys have the best backpacking, hiking, and camping videos period! I always enjoy videos from these guys!

I am about travel for backpacking in CO. I would love to see you produce a video breakdown regarding carry on, check back vs buy at your destination, when traveling to go backpacking. The previous packing videos you have produced have been great and really helped me prepare to best of my ability for local trips. You have travelled to so many destinations and I am sure there are a lot of lessons learned you could pass on. Just a future request 😉!
