  • I am 64 years old and I don't think I have even spent a month of my life by myself. Getting ready to take a 6 week solo camping trip. I have a tent and my car set up. It will be interesting to see who I become when not worrying about others.
  • I guess, I always thought of them as challenges rather than fears. I was a nomadic van dweller for 3.5 years traveling solo in the US and Canada and have traveled solo to 42 countries. I have settled in southern Mexico for the past 3 years. I am now challenging myself to stay in one place for at least 5 years. Luckily, is it soooo beautiful here. There are 9 bays and 36 beaches surrounded by rainforests. I have only NOW come to understand that I am a seeker. I was too busy just doing it to think about this. I am not sure why the need to get 2 bachelor's degrees and 3 master's degrees and a phd in Medical Anthropology didn't tip me off to this before now. I am 68 years old. South America is calling me...
  • Piggy could do a tutorial on rock climbing for you. I didn't realize she was so rugged.😮 As a younger person I was very difiant about excercising my freedom in the wilds. Had a couple dangerous encounters, that I avoided suggessfully because I was a long distance runner for twenty five years. Now at 67, I feel more vulnerable. I like to think most creepies wouldn't bother with an elderly person. I am still difiant, and so miss alone time in nature. I'm on the fence, but you are giving me a bit of additional courage to make the leap.😊❤
  • Okay, I must be weird, because all of these 5 points are actually what I LOVE about solo camping! 🤣
  • @echogo
I have been solo camping for many years. I car camp in campgrounds where there are always people around. I don’t want to backpack into an isolated site. I have a few good books and just enjoy being out in nature.
  • I've been solo camping for over 20 years and I love it. Spent a week alone in Wrangell-St. Elias National Park & Preserve in Alaska. It was so peaceful, but the mosquitoes were murder. I had to wear mosquito netting the entire time.
  • I travel solo all the time. You must simply trust your gut and in my case, also my dog. I was trying to sleep in a rest area on a recent trip to Colorado and South Dakota. My dog would not stop low level growling. Solution - move. I don’t know if there was anything to worry about but but 40 miles further on the highway was another rest area where she settled right down. Safety first, and the fun follows. Love your videos. Keep them coming and walk in peace.
  • Did my fist solo car camping, other than a bit of loneliness at the beginning where I sat on a log at an alpine lake and let the tears flow from missing my deceased husband, I did enjoy it. Seemed like letting the feelings flow through me did the trick. After that the trip was fine, wonderful actually. And enjoyed the experience. Thanks for showing us how it is done and inspiring us by your videos! Many thanks!
  • I LOVE being alone. I'm my dad's caregiver,.in a stressful relationship with my less adventurous spouse and an avid nature lover & outdoorsy woman, but. BUT. Fear of weirdos and bears in certain areas and, this is weird, fear of overheating in my car, all keeps me from biting the solo bullet. I crave it, though and find you inspiring, so thanks!
  • There are many "struggles" as to why we don't camp 😆Except this upcoming weekend, of course. Cheers 🥤
  • After a few solo car camping trips, I've discovered I am so lonely when back at the campsite. I miss the campfire chit chat, music and laughter with my family. I'm not giving up on it, but not going to do as many trips as I initially planned 🙁
  • Diane, quite a thought provoking video and I enjoyed the Cameo of Piggy, too. Cheers, Mate.
  • At first it was fear of the wild animals in the dark or strange people ie men approaching my site. Now I have these solar activated Twinkle lights I put around my vehicle, to not only scare off the little critters seeking refuge, but also when the lights come on, that is my signal to get into my E-Fort and batten the hatches per say. I have never had anyone one weird approach me. All I have met have been respectful and kind. I also have good spidee sense, and if something feels off about a place, I do not stay. I have been enjoying myself camping in between jobs…..I do get a little bored sometimes, even though I have crafty things I can do or even go for a walk, I can be lazy but never lonely. Yesterday I pulled all my stuff out of my Element and cleaned the interior of all the dust from the back roads, remade the bed and organized etc. Life is good
  • Thank you for another great and informative video. I love your piggy... my driver side crab, has finally bit the dust and I replaced him with a carved malachite turtle, but I am not carrying him around, rocks are heavy.
