1967: best summer of my life, hanging out on Beach 35th Street with a boy named Barry. I think of him to this day.

I lived in Arverne Rockaways, 342 Beach 56st. St. from 1951 to 1957 with my parents and 2 sisters, in the NYCHA projects. Kind of depressing life in winter, but summers were great, my mother taking us to the beach, only a half mile down the street. And my folks taking us to Rockaways Playland top, we liked that place a lot, great rides and arcades. When we moved to New Jersey, we still went back there till it closed. The Rockaways will always be a great place, hopefully some of the neighborhoods will improve, a better quality of life for the people there.

Love this clip. I close my eyes and I feel like I'm back in that era . Great memories.

Thank you! This was definitely a labor of love. Grew up on 136th street, third house from the beach.

Beautiful Marty. Nice memories of the good ole days 🙂 And great song by James Taylor.

You just got me with Our Town! Thanks, Marty for taking the time to do this. I lived at Rockaway Point and never met you, but I knew these places.

What a lovely tribute to a place I will always deem magical. If you don't look too closely, the next-to-last photo could almost be of Sal Mineo and Norma Jeane, but the final shot of the seagull shows s/he's weary of that attribution. Moreso, it's a perfect closing, the bird's heavy lids falling upon a bygone era. Thank you.

Dang..... things really have changed here so much

I rode that rollercoaster at Playland with a friend 102 times in a row!

Thank you. That was marvelously done.
