The song "Precious Lord" was written by Thomas Dorsey the "Father of Black Gospel Music." He wrote this song after his wife Nettie died while giving birth to their baby boy and his son died as well. He buried them together in the same casket. This song was born of out Thomas' grief and suffering. It captures the very essence of how Thomas Dorsey was feeling during his time of bereavement. When you are at the end of your rope and there is no place for you to go all you can say is "Precious Lord, Take My Hand. Lead me on. Let me stand. I am tired. I am weak. I am worn. Through the storm, through the night, lead me on to the LIGHT. TAKE MY HAND, PRECIOUS LORD & LEAD ME HOME."

I REALLY do want GOD to hold my hand. Because; if I try to hold HIS; i may let go. But if HE holds mine I KNOW i won't have to worry.

My daughter once saw Aretha in Bloomingdales, NYC. Although there was a ban against employees approaching celebrities, she was compelled to go up to Aretha and say "Miss Aretha I must tell you what an honor it is to see and meet you". With that, Aretha looked at her and with a smile said, "And it is indeed a priviledge and honor to meet you". What superstar diva would tell you that? They don't call Aretha the Queen of Soul for nothing. No matter her age and weathered voice, she can still touch the soul. And this is what makes Aretha Franklin touch a president.

this song has a special meaning to African American people. this song gave many men an women courage to fight on during the civil rights movement. i feel that in these times that we are facing now we need the lord to take our hands and lead us on and help us stand. stand on his word his promises and help us to unite as a country and as people of God. we are all unique and special each race contributing to the diversity that makes America a great place. at the end of the day we're all gods children and we all matter equally. Lord help us to stand in unity in peace and love during these crucial times. Remove the hate in our hearts and replace it with love and acceptance of one another. Lord through the storms and through the night lead us on to the light. and for those lives that have been tragically lost, precious lord take their hands and lead them home.
