Gift Wrapping in Japan! Explained w/ Multiple Camera Angles: Easy SLOW Speed Wrapping Instructions!

Published 2016-12-17
This easy and slow gift wrapping technique / tutorial will show you how to wrap a gift like they do at Japanese department stores. This Japanese gift wrapping hack allows you to wrap a gift in under 30 seconds and just 1 piece of tape (with practice of course! You'll always need to hold the gift down at all times in order to wrap a present with 1 piece of tape). There's an added hack or step that creates a slot in the gift wrap and allows you to put a hidden card in there too! :-)

In Japan, not only does the gift have value, the method of wrapping it also shows appreciation for the person it’s being gifted to. So the elaborate design and intricacy isn’t for wasting time or materials; it’s to show the receiver of the gift that they are valued.

2 thoughts I had when watching this: 1)too much geometry that I wasn't ready for. 2)this is how I shall wrap presents this year. thank you for patiently and throughly explaining each step!

My wife has always made fun of my gift wrappings, calling them sloppy. I followed this video (needing to pause frequently) and wrapped the best looking present I have ever wrapped. This video, the slowness, and the multiple angles and explanations was extremely helpful. Thank you!

I never realized there might be such a different way to wrap presents. It's just something that never occurred to me to even wonder about. Cultural differences are so fun and exciting, even little things like this.

I mean this as a compliment. Your instructions are annoyingly clear. I find myself thinking "yes, i get it..move on" then you say "Let em show you that again" Extremely clear instructions. Great job.
  • First I saw "multiple camera angles" and then I saw "slow instructions". I clicked like. Then I watched the video, because I was interested - but I already wanted to show my appreciation for your understanding of the importance of multiple angles and slow instructions even before I watched. <3
  • Mad respect for people who actually do this for all of their presents. I attempted to follow this for one (1) present, and two hours later, I was crying on the kitchen floor surrounded by crumpled wrapping paper from all of my failed attempts.

The takeaway lesson: If someone matters enough to get them a gift then they’re worth wrapping it beautifully. Thank you xo
  • @DocRen
Little suggestion :D Try adding a clip at the end where you do it real fast and without instructions <3 So people will see that it won't take forever to wrap :)
  • If you're getting mad at someone whose folding paper, you need to take a step back and rethink your life
  • How the f do people figure out how to do things to begin with. Like. Anything. I mean the creation of something. It's mind boggling.

I feel like anything from Japan is incredibly beautiful and perfect.

PEOPLE!!! In Japan wrapping matters, it shows that you care about the person you’re giving it to, the wrapping is part of the present. Sure in America or wherever else you live you can just wrap your presents how you want, without “wasting paper”, in this video she is just showing how they do it in Japan, she by all means never said “you HAVE to wrap your presents like this!”. I find it incredibly stupid to say “oh well that’s wasting paper, and it takes to much time with to many steps” 1. She says in the video that “once you get it, it could take less than 30 seconds” and 2. That’s not even that many steps, to me it would definitely be worth those steps to make my presents look like that. I think this video was very helpful and I’m definitely going to try it this Christmas!^ - ^

"Too much time." Then don't do it. "Too complicated." Then don't do it. "Too much paper." Then don't do it.
  • The sad thing is even after living in Japan for 12 years and seen it done countless times in stores, I still could not get the knack of this on my own, and never found anyone who could show and explain it as well as you have. You've done terrific with this vid.

People in the comments are saying how thoughtful and sweet and considerate it is to wrap it so perfectly. I’ll take a gift any way it’s presented. That’s thoughtful enough for me.
  • @sophiemegan2358
This was extremely instructional, I find it typical to be unsure of what is happening when watching origami or things of that nature, but it was very clear as to what each step was

Looking for the bad comments everyone is ranting about like: 🔎👀

December 2022: this showed up in my suggested videos. People around the world are still watching your wonderful tutorial with the pause button on standby... and holding a roll of tape in their teeth... Fascinating!!!
