Sissel, the international singing sensation from Norway, is widely regarded as one of the finest and most talented sopranos in the world. Her crystalclear voice has made Sissel a national institution in Norway. Sissel has sung all over the world, selling over six million solo albums. She contributed the haunting vocal tracks for the soundtrack to Titanic. She has been doing great duets with singers like Placido Domingo, Charles Aznavour, Bryn Terfel, Jose Carreras, Russell Watson, Neil Sedaka and Josh Groban. A very remarkable voice you will only hear once in your lifetime.

The origin of the Christmas carol we know as Silent Night was a poem that was written in 1816 by an Austrian priest called Joseph Mohr.
On Christmas Eve in 1818 in the small alpine village called Oberndorf it is reputed that the organ at St. Nicholas Church had broken. Joseph Mohr gave the poem of Silent Night (Stille Nacht) to his friend Franz Xavier Gruber and the melody for Silent Night was composed with this in mind. The music to Silent Night was therefore intended for a guitar and the simple score was finished in time for Midnight Mass.

    Back in about 1990 my wife's Auntie sent this on tape from Norway. There was no name for the singer, and since then I have been searching for her. My wife's family could not be bothered to find out from her relatives in Norway, and so I have puzzled ever since as to who this beautiful voice belonged to. Such was the impact that I never forgot, and even remembered what she sang, that being Silent Night. Last evening (20 05 2021) I clicked on to someone I had never heard of, and recognised the voice immediately. Imagine finding her after all this time. Over thirty years, and I am so happy.

    i read the comments of the disapprovers who say she can't sing opera.. she never claimed to. she always said she was a middle of the road singer. but that doesn't reduce her in the eyes of those who can hear a remarkable voice and sit back and enjoy it. I don't care if she looked like the back of a bus... she has a voice that makes me forget all pain and be a child again... this is a chance not to be missed... listen and love it.

    I return at Christmas time to listen again & again to Sissel's Silent Night...awe inspiring more especially at 04:00 with her high pitch and clarity... "sleep in heavenly peace....!" Wooow!
