Fed Chair Powell Testifies Before Senate

2024-07-09に共有
US Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell testifies in front of the Senate Banking and Housing Committee.

Powell said “more good data” would strengthen confidence that inflation is moving down toward the US central bank’s 2% target, and recent readings point to “modest further progress” on prices.

He also spoke about the housing market, risks to monetary policy, recent inflation data, risk to the commercial real estate market, and the proposed changes of Basel III.

This is part of his semiannual report to Congress. He's scheduled to start at 10 am ET.

  • people like Scott using this platform as political should not be allowed, its low and its not on point of any real discussion on finance.
  • Do not cut rates at all, in fact increase them. The refocus should be on job creation, although the unhinged immigration influx is not helping.
  • @BeNNzuFG
The prices are "stable". They go up in very stable terms. Time to declare success!
  • As soon as rates get cut, housing prices are going up.

What most don't realize is that the lowering of rates will be what messes up the real estate market. Rates being what they are is keeping the inventory low as people do not want to give up the low rates they've gotten a few years back. Many are literally married to a mortgages and stuck in their locals. There would be an explosion of supply that would quickly crush property values. This is going to be the recession that everyone laughs off and it is just a few rate cuts away
  • We don’t really need more construction but they Konomi can really benefit from it. Although construction jobs are no longer going to Americans or legal immigrants. Would be great though if the interest rate was lower normal, families could buy the homes that are already available instead of being bought out by big companies that have the money
  • Where’s all the money going? Everything rises and falls on leadership!
  • Did the politicians and FED chair really understand the pain caused by inflation?
  • Pay for your own forgiveness. We shouldnt suffer for what we dont want.
  • Cannot believe s brown has any job at all, let alone is a senator
  • normal American people not paying nationals debt, senator don't know that simply
  • @JT-od4df
Not all businesses make it some fail some don't ,but if people don't want to work for you because you're not paying enough or you not a good boss or your product is not really what people want that doesn't give you the right to bring in illegal workers . You close down your business and go work for someone else . Not all businesses survive not everyone can be the boss
  • I want my dollar to go further, not my access to “capital” DEBT, thats the system they want, they want you in debt, they want you to borrow, they want to make lending cheap so you do it more. Keep rates high, bring things back to a norm, it’ll suck, but the latter is worse.
