In this video I’m going to show you how we resurfaced a concrete porch with a troweled concrete overlay. First we pressure washed the surface and then etched it with acid. Then we applied a slurry coat of Westcoat grout in a light gray color. This coat will become the grout line color in the finished product. We came back the next day and taped a slate pattern on the concrete. Once the slate stencil was on the concrete, we troweled another coat of Westcoat grout in a dark gray color on top of the tape. Once the concrete overlay was dry, we removed the tape pattern and applied two coats of Westcoat solvent based clear sealer.

  • I've been watching dozens of videos on how to resurface my patio and this is by far the best one! I'm definitely going to do it this way! That came out fantastic! I live in Virginia Beach so this is perfect for our project as you address the weather and the best times to do the resurfacing/drying time/etc.

Thanks for the extra tips in this one. They're invaluable.
  • Great job on the application and on the video production which is not easy and taken for granted by most. I have done a few stamped concrete projects that looked like this. I have a driveway and pool deck that would be good to do this overlay on in SW Florida thanks for the videos. Well done.

Soooo informative. Well done Tim 👍🏼 can’t believe you offer courses that are EVEN MORE informative than this 🤯 Great video tutorial. So many good pointers we can implement

One suggestion: Lift the column bases up and resurface, then slide the bases back down afterwards.

Definitely like the trowel instead of the sprayed version. Like the texture way mkre

Hi Tim, I watch some of the these videos sometimes just for a laugh. I use the same products as you (mostly, not a fan of lacquer sealer in the south) and do somethings a bit different, but good job. One thing that would speed this up for you a lot is; there are companies out there that make the grout tape with 4" increment marks!

hi Tim, thank you for the videos. They are really giving me new thoughts about how to repair and redecorate my outdoor walkway. There is one thing I may need your kind assistance with : I have to broaden and resurface my very old walkway first so they could be flat enough. Is it possible if I use the light grey color concrete to do the step then I just follow up with the taping and dark layers afterwards? Please advise. Thank you in advance ! 😊

Hey Tim, I've watched this video several times now to take in as much information as possible - I'm really impressed by your work and the variety of projects you tackle. I'd love to hire you for our 550sqf patio but you're kinda far away from Texas. I'm a professional home owner and I've done both tile and concrete work before - so I'd like to give it a shot. If you don't mind me asking - why did you use TC-5 as grout coat and then TC-2 on top? Is it because you wanted a difference in structure between grout and 'tile'? And second - westcoat gives a coverage between 100-200sqf per bag for tc-5 and 100-350sqf for tc-2 - in your experience, how much can you cover with a bag using the method in the video above? Thanks a lot in advance. I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge. Best, Michael

would like if u talk to the square footage of the project, number of overlay bags, primer, acid, tape type. pricing of materials would be wonderful as well. like how u explained the cost of the pressure washer.
