AI Will Make a "New Class of Useless People" - Who is Yuval Noah Harari?

What do you think about these predictions? 🤔

A lot of people are talking about retraining to fill jobs that actually require you or I. Here's a pertinent question. Given what we already know about the target for AI agents and their projected capability, exactly what will these jobs be that we would supposedly retrain for, that would supposedly need a human? Don't tell me "oh they don't exist yet, they will arise once the event happens". No. They won't. Think about it. What white-collar skill are we going to invent that an AI agent capable of programming, doing accounting and performing academic research is not going to be able to do? Consider for a moment that Sam Altman recently declared that GPT 5 will be able to reason as well as a human with a PhD.

He's also a Vipassana meditation teacher. He credits being able to create the Sapiens book to his meditation practice. If somebody should be in that high position I prefer to be him. He has been warning about the dangers of AI.

I'd like to add two things: I rather read Harari, because his voice... he has something like an alarmist in his tone and he comes across as constantly triggered and agitated, but his books and thinking are great, clearly very intelligent and asking the right questions. Although Lathspell I name you, Ill-news; and ill news is an ill guest they say =) the other thing: have you looked into Ray Kurzweil and his technological singularity stuff? It's really unavoidable. Kurzweil wouldn't argue against learning new skills, but he says that at a point, learning will going to be useless for everyone (due to the lack of tasks... yes, he's an optimist) as the AI will surpass us in such ways that simply no one can't imagine (or maybe just him:) Liked the video, keep it up!

The big political question will be "What do we need humans for?" Who is the "we" in this statement?

"Pacified by drugs and entertainment". Aldous Huxley (Brave New World) is laughing from his 60 year old grave. There is one new possible job for the "discarded class". Full-time actors in a global massive multi-player 24/7 game (think Ready Player One). AI will never have feelings, just a high fidelity simulation of the human emotional core. So, hire humans for the game.
