To remember the derivatives of Arginine, it's just all the ones with "R": aRginine --> cReatine, uRea, and nitRic oxide

HARTNUP Disease: AR : Autosomal Recessive T: Tryptophan reabsorption impaired N: Niacin deficiency NU: Neutral amino acids in the Urine P: Pellagra

For those of you who took Biochemistry in undergrad, you might have also learned Private Tim Hall (PVT TIM HALL) which also can work for the 9 essential AA's. Note that Arginine would be the 10th but it's only essential in children.
  • I remember tryptophan derivatives like this: B6/B2 = B3 (Niacin) B6 - BH4 = seroTWOnin Hope it helps!
  • Thanks for the hints, I don't know if it could help somebody but I came up with a mnemonic on my own for mixed Aminoacids. Ketogenic: you eat Lamb and Liver - Leucine / Lysine Glucogenic: you eat Honey, Mango, Vanilla - Histidine, Methionine, Valine Mixed: you eat Phun Threats until you get Tyred, fat and Isolated. - Phenilalanine, Threonine, Tyrosine and Isoleucine.

Mixed: Isolate - isoleucine Three - threonine Tyres - tyrosine Phrom Alan - phenylalanine

Tyr also can be made by the body BUT it is made from Phe by phenylalanine hydroxylase. So if you cut Phe, Tyr turns essential.
  • to remember mixed aa think brad PITTs diet: Phenylalanine, Isoleucine, Threonine, Tyrosine
  • To be honest you’re really a life saver I wish I would’ve paid more attention in my medical school but now I can understand well thank you so much you really make a difference in people lives like mine thanks ❤
  • They way I remember ketogenic/gluconeogenic AAs is that since they’re mixed, their names are longest (tryptophan, isoleucine, phenylalanine, threonine). Works for me, hope it helps.

Basic amino acids can be remembered as HLA is the most BASIC thing to be known for organ transplant

To remember the Mixed group of amino acids, if you learned the Essential amino acids, the Glucogenic amino acids, and the Ketogenic amino acids, the Mixed amino acids are the remainder of the amino acids in the Essential amino acids that are not the Glucogenic or Ketogenic. In other words, by process of elimination of the Glucogenic/Ketogenic amino acids from the Essential amino acids, you'll get the Mixed group.

It’s the best explanation of Basic I ever got. Always had hard time to understand the slang.😂😂

"You trypt (Tryptophan) me & broke my Hart (Hartnup Disease), now I can't be nice (Niacin)." Haha.
