Hailed as the most faithfully filmed adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's legendary characters. This acclaimed series stars Ronald Howard as the world-famous sleuth and H. Marion Crawford in a different portrayal of Dr. Watson than usual.

THE CASE OF THE NEUROTIC DETECTIVE: Watson is alarmed by Holmes stranger-than-usual behavior: hiding a necklace in his humidor, taking a date to a formal affair and refusing to help Lestrade capture the criminals stealing England's state secrets and valuables. After employing disguises and old-fashioned snooping, Watson convinces Lestrade that Holmes is the evil genius behind all the thefts.

  • Now I adore Ronald Howard as much as I always adored his father Leslie Howard. What a great dynasty! And H. Marion Crawford is a wonderful discovery. He's one of the best in portrayal of Dr. Watson.

This reminds me of a woman I dated years ago. She was the HR person for a Kmart store but also worked as a "shoplifter" testing the security systems of other Kmart stores. If she was caught she showed her credentials and the store passed the test. He she wasn't caught, she marched back into the manager's office with the "stolen" merchandise and somebody was in trouble. I used to tell people I dated a professional shoplifter.

Magnificient service for security and the required strange and indifferent behavior by Holmes being misunderstood by Dr Watson and Lestrade but was well appreciated along with viewer's applause.

Okay, this is my favorite Sherlock Holmes, for the writing, the acting and --the most crucial point--the casting. Best S & H ever cast!

Loved the humor interspersed in these versions of Sherlock Holmes! My favorite Holmes and a stronger portrayal of Watson than other versions. The more recent Sherlock Holmes are far from endearing. In fact many are downright cold!

He looks so much like Ashley from "Gone With The Wind," I had to look it up. Turns out it was his father that played Ashley! He looks exactly like his father, sounds, and acts like he did! Amazing!

ha ha ha the quick responce, "What are you having for dinner?" Very glib! These short stories are fun. They don't waste our time with extra fluff just to punch up the show! They get in get it and get out!

Very nice mysterious episode in this wonderful series and, I think, the first one to show Holmes formally dressed in top and tails. KAN
  • A very interesting episode of "Sherlock Holmes" with a good plot, pacing, and acting by the primary and secondary cast.

He certainly looks like his Dad Leslie Howard . This series with Ronald Howard is the best Sherlock Holmes I think. He’s more human and likable.
  • @MadderMel
Class disguise by Watson ?? Pulling up his collar and pushing his hat down !? I'm sure that will fool Holmes !

15:20 is the funniest moment in the entire series imo, that expression and how he looks down xd
