Skylar Diggins-Smith Joins Q and D | Knuckleheads Quarantine: E7 | The Players' Tribune

Published 2020-07-10
Indiana LEGEND Skylar Diggins-Smith joins the fellas for this week’s episode of Knuckleheads with Quentin Richardson and Darius Miles. Sky talks about being a highly recruited high schooler, and why it was so important to stay close to home when she went to college. She also dishes on what she loved about the rivalry that Notre Dame has with UCONN. D and Q give her kudos for putting ND women’s hoops on the map. She discusses being the first female athlete signed to Roc Nation and what her first phone call with Jay-Z was like. She then moves on to her time in the WNBA — her years in Tulsa, what it was like to play with Liz Cambage in Dallas, and what she’ll be looking forward to when she steps on the court with Diana Taurasi and Brittney Griner in Phoenix. Finally, Skylar touches on the social climate in the country and gives her perspective on how we can all be better. Skylar Diggins-Smith, a walking bucket since middle school, tells it all.

Skylar’s college basketball run with Notre Dame was legendary forreal. Man what a time it was
  • Knuckleheads what about Dawn Staley? She's a baller's baller. Don't see point guards like her anymore. One of Philly's finest.

I went to Rutgers 09-13 got to see her and Maya Moore when i was in college. Sky put 24 on our heads and maya dropped 22 and 17 rebounds basically in the second half. College basketball was great no matter where you was at around that time. #bigEAST

I love how yal support the ladies and WNBA. Getting all my hoop crushes on the show!
  • I went to elementary and middle school with her. I remember gym and recess I could never play on her team because I was one of the bigger ones. So to make it fair she would insist I play on the opposition. Her character alone was great. Always knew she would make it.

Skylar is being very modest....Since Skylar was in 3rd grade she has always been the best player on any court including boys. Couple people made it out of south bend, but everyone in the city knew she would be the one to put South Bend on the map. She is a national superstar. South Bend Superstar. The best thing about that is she doesn’t act like one. She always shows love anytime she is home. She is South Bend’s Pride.

I’ve been waiting for a WNBA team in Philly for over 20 years. The WNBA would get so much love in Philly.
