The Piaggio P180 Avanti is a remarkable aircraft that stands out for its unique design and exceptional performance. With its blend of jet-like speed and turboprop efficiency, the P180 Avanti is a popular choice for business and leisure travel, as well as for specialized operations such as emergency services.

The aircraft's forward wing and twin pusher engines design has won numerous awards and fans around the world. The P180 Avanti can reach speeds of up to 400 knots thanks to its sleek and aerodynamic design, while its maximum altitude of 41,000 feet allows it to avoid most weather systems and turbulence, providing a smooth and safe flying experience for passengers. The innovative pusher configuration of the Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A turboprop engines reduces cabin noise and vibration, providing passengers with an unparalleled level of comfort and refinement while in the air.

In addition to its impressive speed and great comfort, the P180 Avanti is celebrated for its remarkable versatility, with the ability to take off and land on short runways, making it the perfect mode of transportation for accessing remote locations.

Furthermore, the P180 Avanti has a spacious cabin that can accommodate up to nine passengers, with comfortable seating and ample legroom, and it is designed with soundproofing materials to ensure a quiet and peaceful flight experience.

The lifting configuration of the aircraft, which includes forward-mounted wings and a small, rear-mounted horizontal stabilizer, reduces drag, increases efficiency, and allows for faster speeds and longer ranges. In summary, the unique design of the Piaggio P180 Avanti offers several advantages, including increased fuel efficiency, faster speeds, reduced noise and vibration, enhanced passenger comfort, and the ability to operate from shorter runways, making it a highly desirable aircraft in its class.

  • As a technician in the aerospace industry for over thirty years I found his aircraft just beautiful.

I've flown this aircraft, and agree, that it was the quietest, abd fastest turboprop I have ever flown in, and the cabin space, the largest, in it's class A pleasure to fly !!

I was lucky to see one of these up close and got to chat with the pilots. Really cool design. Apparently one of the advantages the engine/prop placement is that since you're down by the skinny end of the fuselage, you can place the engines closer to the centerline, reducing asymmetric thrust in an engine-out situation.

We get regular visits from one of these at Blackbushe (I think it's based at Gloucestershire Airport; I remember seeing it parked there while I was taxiing). I can always tell when it goes over my house on final: not only is the sound very distinctive - it's also incredibly loud!
  • And when it fly's overhead I do not even have to look up to know that very distinct sound of the Piaggio Avanti.

I used to occasionally fly a Piaggio P166 from Bairnsdale Victoria Australia. They were a regional airline favorite and The Department of Civil Aviation had a couple, one of which was the one I flew. The P180 Avanti drew much inspiration for it, including the reverse 'pusher' engines and wheel configuration.
  • Jan Roskam managed the low speed and transonic speed wind tunnel programs for the SIAI Marchetti S-211 and Piaggio 180-Avanti. He passed away recently. A remarkable Aeronautical Engineer and professor. Author of excellent books on flight dynamics and aircraft design.

This is the sweetest looking aircraft ever!
  • It would be good if there were more aircraft in this configuration. The Beechcraft Starship has already proven the physical advantages of this configuration. Less drag, thus better efficiency and better stall performance. Last but not least, this beautiful design. Thank you very much, I am looking forward to the next videos.
  • Wow , what a unique aircraft! The front reminds me of a hammerhead shark . They all were awesome and the sceneries were beautiful! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
  • The beautiful stip and forest scenario of your shots, really remarks the short operating distances possible with this aircraft
  • @TheHDAviation
I really enjoyed this informative video, really nicely put together shots and info. The P180 really is a unique aircraft and one I must spot some day! Nice work Matt.

I luckily heard and then saw one of these fly over my house in Victoria Australia and i was amazed by the design of it. Haven't forgotten it ever since
  • Nice to have the good commentary over these videos, I learned a lot from it... Great video once again Matt! I just love this plane!
  • @topfelya
This beautiful aircraft reminds me a high-tech submarine 🙂 I like that cover voice !
  • @hernyshegga
beautiful aircraft with perfect aerodynamics !
  • @visualverbs
Another smashing video, Matt! Great work, and great production value!
  • @FlyingTablez
Great footage as always Matt! Also I enjoy this kind of informational video from time to time, good idea.
