HBO's "Last Week Tonight With John Oliver" takes a satirical look at the news, as its fearless host tackles serious issues. One year in, the program is enjoying a reputation for scathing wit. John Oliver joins "CBS This Morning" for a wide-ranging conversation, from his Edward Snowden interview, impact of "Daily Show" host Jon Stewart and the changing faces in late night television.

"I don't care about the royal baby. I don't care." John Oliver is awesome.
  • @elizaheathen
he has earned a spot up there with Colbert and Stewart, hands down

Funny ppl are always uncomfortable/awkward amongst unfunny people.

These people are so used to being so fake and shallow and on pins and needles and John comes in and keeps it real, love how he kind of calls them out on their lame, lazy questions in subtle, polite ways.

Charlie Rose asked a very insightful question, and John gave a very insightful answer: "Ideally satire would not do anything better than anyone." But then the co-host cut him off and changed the subject.  I think that's something that should be discussed more often.  I've heard Jon Stewart express similar sentiments.  Unfortunately, the people whose primary objective is to make people laugh are giving Americans more fair and balanced information than the entities whose primary objective is to report the facts.

Can the CBS hosts quit interrupting John? They won't let him finish a single sentence.

"Are you lazy people?" Cute, but it should be obvious that Oliver and his team put way more work into their specials with writing letters to get interviews, researching and writing about one subject for a segment the length of Stewart's whole show, and of course actually interviewing some of the people he does for these specials. Jon Stewart is great, and I love his show 4 times a week, but I wouldn't ever vote for Oliver to sacrifice the intense quality of that one hour for more shows. If I had to choose one, I would probably choose Stewart, but being able to have two, I love the formula Oliver has, and think that they really developed something beautiful. Stewart & Oliver fo' life
  • How honest and humble John Oliver is in this interview regarding himself, his wife and especially Jon Stewart makes him so much more likable. I didn't think that was possible.

The fact Jon Oliver can endure these idiotic questions in the morning makes me love him even more. I don't know what I would have done. Run? Hit my head on the table?

I don't know why, but this interview dynamic and these people make my skin crawl. Except for John Oliver, of course.

Claus is behind the camera like "Hahaaaa keep laughing..one day..one day i will have your job"

Couldn't be happier that he got his own show. He killed it on the Daily Show when he took over for Stewart while he was away. Those are some big shoes to fill, and he made it happen.

Being humble is so underestimated these days, this guy is awesome!!!
