John Oliver. Because he's the hero Earth deserves, AND the one it needs right now.

As one of those weather nerds he briefly mentions, I'm really glad that John Oliver covered this. I've been worried about this ever since he was nominated, but as John says, it's difficult to get people interested in talking about a mundane topic like government weather agencies, especially when all the other crap is going on. I swear half of the scandals he's involved with are just cover to distract people from stuff like this.

Last Week Tonight: Bringing issues I didn’t know were issues to attention, and making topics I thought were utterly boring, exciting. John and his staff are national treasures.

As a meteorologist, I thank you for bringing this out into the open, Last Week Tonight.

It's so unnerving how so many Americans see cooperation as weakness.
  • “Cooperation makes you weak and subservient” is the kind of thing you expect a Saturday morning cartoon villain to say

"Feels like 70 or feels like 19, I don't know" is the most accurate description of weather in the Midwest though, so I guess he's right.
  • Of all the things that happened that year, you will be happy to know Barry Myers never became the Head of NOAA.
  • Every time I see a segment from LWT, I'm like, " how big of a deal can this be?" 30 mins later... "WTF! How can they get away with that?"
  • As meteorological scientist, I can tell you that the european model is one of the most reliable ones out there, especialy when it comes to hurricane/storm predictions, even though we have ours here in Morocco called Aladin, I still allways consult it before making my final predictions, especialy in winter.

I would like to see a John Oliver episode where he catches up with old episodes and let's us know what happened a year later.
  • As someone who does fieldwork for research purposes, everyone on our team relies on radar and weather apps to plan for field seasons. Whether it be for personal safety/preparedness or to ensure our data can actually be collected. I had no expectations coming into this video but let me say that I deleted my Accuweather app before the video ended and every extra minute I watched made me more certain in my decision.

The USA is a corporation that tolerates citizens.
  • it's sad that i only hear about this on an HBO comedy show instead of the network news channels.

It's really impressive that this guy can get nearly 5 million people (at the time of writing) to click on a video called 'Weather'

I have driven past NOAA's head quarters many times and never really realized how vital they were. Thank you, John, for enlightening me.
  • Me: There’s no way John Oliver can ruin the weather for me. It’s weather! Me 16 minutes later: DAMN IT

"Pay us or die in a tornado" is literally a supervillain business plan, except that the supervillain will at least have had the decency to have invented and built a tornado machine.
