If you want to go fast on the Sim Racing Touge, learning how to drive slow cars is critical. Not only will this massively improve your Assetto Corsa Touge driving ability, but it’s also extremely fun and rewarding. And once you get good enough at it, you’ll be embarrassing drivers in cars far more powerful than yours.. just like this…

The thing about these beefy and powerful cars is that they’re heavy and cumbersome. This means they don’t turn so well, and it’s typically faster to sacrifice mid-corner speed to increase it’s turning ability. Then one these lumps are finally pointed out of the corner, they use their massive acceleration power to make up for that lost time on entry. This is known as point and shoot driving, or slow-in-fast-out.

But in cars that don’t have the power to accelerate out of a corner like a bullet, we need a totally different style of driving if we want any chance at keeping up. And the other day I put on an absolute masterclass on probably one of the best touges for it. Introducing Tsubaki line, this is easily one of the top 3 touges in existence. It has it all, from slow technical sections, massive hairpins and fast, undulating not-so-straights that really test a driver’s nerves. It is the perfect playground for slower cars that want to embarrass faster ones, so let’s see exactly what I did to beat the likes of the Tuned 86, RX7, Nissan GTR, Supra and 370z.

  • 4:03 "just because I was keeping pace in an epic fight" is the best worst misinterpretation of AI subtitles I've read so far
  • "I don't drive fast cars, I drive cars fast". I've been saying this for the last 20 years.
  • "Gotta brake smoothly, maintain balance. Balance increases traction." Wheeler, Vert 2005

I'm so glad, as a civic driver, that we can call them "pro sim racists" because as someone who does touge on gamepad, I have an irrational hatred of wheels and every car has at least five of them
  • @speedfreak24
Momentum driving is so much fun, I love perfectly balancing my Mazdaspeed Axela through corners and keeping up with cars pushing 500 hp
  • The biggest joke about the touge union servers is that they all have semi-slicks as an option, and they're on by default.

Worth noting, overlapping brake and throttle also slightly changes brake bias, even if only for a moment.

Gran Turismo 3 had you drive a Miata on Trial Mountain for a license test, it was pretty hard because if you slowed down too much or made a mistake, the car would take 3-5 business days to get back up to speed

Now on the Isn't straight, the MX-5 performs perfectly

I started simming with NR2003 and in Nascar momentum is everything. There's no hard braking into the corner and such but the pedals are there for mostly steering: more gas->more understeer, less gas->less understeer and you usually gain by keeping the speed up and the balance mid-corner. Rather than using aggressive inputs you drive like you're on ice.
  • Nice video man! I can really see how you've improved with the style and editing of these videos! awesome
  • Not to throw geek glasses, but The Godzilla is a status for just the R32's dominance throughout most Touring car of that time plus on a Australian magazine Wheels, and not R34 of it's time. Therefore that is not Godzilla even though with the similiar specs. Want more factual stuff just go watch Dytastic's 101 facts of Nissan it is helpful.

Foregone Destruction from Unreal Tournament hehehe! Very impressive and important info on the Video! Nicely Done!
  • Love to see a guide for my favourite touge and see exactly tecniques i use on the same places, im pretty fast and got tons of kms on tsubaki, is too fun

I am on my one 15 minute break on a 10 hour shift on the register on the 4th of July, thank you so much for being my mental reset!

Good meeting you at Tsubaki when you’re making this video 😊
