Someone got rid of a broken 4K 55" TV (TCL 55S405) that was under warranty. Their repair guy couldn't figure it out why there was a blank screen. They gave it to me and I tracked down the problem and fixed it with a small piece of tape. Now the image looks great! Stay tuned for part 2 where I explain more of why/how this type of solution works.

What was the best thing someone gave you because they didn't want it any more ? It could be broken or working. If broken, what did you do to fix it?

I am a 67 year old woman who has always loved (since my childhood) to repair appliances. I had a 55" TV that was not working after only 3 years. I discovered this video and started to repair it. My TV is working great after a few hours to find the tiny little part to put the tape in. Thanks for sharing your genius!
  • at last someone who actually explains whats going on. from one old tv engineer to another .respect
  • @thetanseyfamily
Thanks Rees, I fixed our TV today, with a tiny piece of sellotape. I didn't have a clue where the clock wires were, but I tried each wire one by one, and within 10 minutes I had isolated the shorting issue. The TV looks greatnow, thanks so much! I'm so happy and I learned so much about monitors from your videos and taking the monitor apart, priceless!

I been fixing TVs for a while and this was one of, if not the easiest fixes ever. Thanks a million. You definitely learned a subscriber.

My son and I fixed his Sony TV today with your trick. We both were surprised that it worked in the end. We had a bit trouble finding the Clock lines because they were labelled on one connector but not on the other. Finally we managed it and are very satisfied. Of course you can still see some lines but only if you are near to the TV.

Great video!! I love that you not only fixed it, but you explained every part of it along the way. It’s nice to know what you’re doing, not that you just put tape on it to fix it. 👏
  • I had to come back to this video for a reason.. my Panasonic led tv had same flickering issue they sent a technician from Panasonic but he couldn't repair it and said ill have to go for screen replacement which was costing me price of a new tv...also he told me that this tv has absolutely no value now if I give it in exchange for new tv.. I denied screen replacement and started searching on yt for solution and came across this video. I'm glad to say I've fixed the tv myself just by watching this video..their technician failed to do this simple fix. Thank you for making this video you saved my $$

This method revived my 3-year-old Skyworth TV. Two technicians said that it was beyond repair. Saw your video and proceeded to place the tape on the ribbon. After about 30+ tries, the 2mm tape saved my TV. Thank you from Malaysia! :trophy-yellow-smiling:
  • I must say man, after 5 years of DIY TV fixing this might be the single most useful tip in diagnosing picture problems. I have never ever heard of anyone talking about clock lines in any video, literature or otherwise and 've done a lot of research and reading on TV repair. You got my vote, subscription and like. Keep up the great work!

This guy really has a passion for what he does. He doesn't just look at the major parts for issues, he dissects the parts until he finds the issue that is creating the problem. That is a rare find in, any field of prepare work. Great job guy...,!!👍🙂

That was amazing. I have been fixing LCD TV's since 2010 and never have I ever been led to this repair method. Of course I am doing warranty repair so if the T-comm board is replaced and I still have the same symptoms whatever company just replaces the TV. However I just got for free a nice 70 inch Vizio that has back light and when the menu buttons are pushed there is a faint raise in luminosity on the screen where the menu would normally be but no text or pictures otherwise. The luminosity gain follows when I scroll through the menu blindly so I know the TV works - just going to be and issue with the T-comm board - but thanks to you if I pull out that one cable at a time and find it is not the T-comm board but something in the panel I will not have to take the time to part this beast out - I should be able to work through the clock connections and could be a quick fix almost free - thank you!
  • @journeyon1983
That was an interesting diagnosis. I've never seen this kind of process of elimination to fix horizontal lines on a large lcd screen. I'll probably never see this problem in real life again. It seems like a rarity but it's nice to know how creative one can be in finding a creative solution to pretty much bypass the issue. Nice job FrugalRepair.👍
  • Well,,,,that was amazing how you went through those lines and found the problem, you make it seem so simple and easy. Thanks EJ
  • @meteotwister
One of those so simple I can't believe it works things. Spent an hour with a multimeter trying to find a short and failed. 5 minutes cutting tape and sorted. Thanks a lot, very intuitive solution.

Thank you 🙏🏾 so much for posting this repair video. This fix worked on my Samsung UN55KS8000FXZA that kept boot cycling. You saved me a lot of $, and I feel so accomplished. I did this initially and it did not work. I knew I had a good power supply, but was not sure about the main board and led panel. I went ahead and installed a new main board and no change. I did not find any burned resistors on the led panel. Went back to scotch taping along the 2 connectors on the main board. Tried a few different sections and then all of a sudden, voila! For anyone out there with a Samsung and who has tried almost everything, try the scotch tape method again on various sections. You may get lucky! It’s worth a shot and costs zero dollars!
  • @Sonny-Leah
You did such a good job explaining exactly how you were doing everything then I'm 100% confident I could fix this problem myself
  • @pauldiaz35
I was finally able to use your method for a Sony XBR-65C900C. Following your suggestions, I was able to block the ribbon lines causing the issues with tape and now all issues of the 4K TV are resolved. No more black lines on top of the screen and no more out of focus intermittent problems. It is just like new. I did some try and error and ended up blocking around 5 lines on the right side ribbon. When I saw that all symptoms disappeared, I did not try to unblock any more lines. Thanks again, you are a lifesaver.
  • @Johntheheadache
I love how much clear info you gave in 10 minutes...this same amount of info in other videos takes 55 minutes with intros and people trying to display all aspects of their personality...and by the time you're done watching...you're exhausted and you decide to just buy a new TV and be done with it.
  • @ArvindGaba
I am happy to inform you that I followed your steps and was able to stick the tape to get the picture back. The issue of fine lines was still there but I did not have your patience to find which was the faulty line to cover it with tape. The way you took out time to showcase the issue and resolution is commendable. I had 3 engineers who told me that the TV's screen was gone and it would be replaced by paying 50% of the TV cost, a small piece of tape did what these engineers could not do.
