The orientation of lines on your LCD matter when trying to diagnose the problem. I've heard from a lot of you that you want some help with vertical lines (because I have other videos about horizontal lines) so I hope this video helps you understand more about how screens work and helps you with some ideas on how to get them working again.

  • I'm from Sri Lanka and I have a 65-inch TV. I experienced the same issue shown in your video. The repair person asked me to pay $550, but I fixed it as you suggested. Thank you very much for helping me save my money.
  • Just wanted to let you know that your channel inspired me to repair my patio tv instead of buying a new one. Ended up being the led driver board. I’m pretty handy but electronics intimidated me until I came across your channel. Thanks for what you do!
  • I like that you showed off this TV repair even though you were unable to get it 100% working.

I just got a 75 inch vizio off the curb. Black lines ugh. I followed your directions and cleaned contacts..... works like new! Thank you for the video. Definitely thumbs up.
  • @JoeMuc2008
In many cases you can successfully reattach the bond contacts by using a hot bar. Besides the contact surfaces being a little bit sticky themselves, there's adhesive between the contact surfaces which is activating when heated to safely keep the ribbon in place. There are temperature-regulated soldering irons that have large bar-shaped tips to put heat onto a large surface. That would be the best-controlled approach but also the most expensive. The edge of a laundry iron might also do the job as you don't need excessive heat, only around 180°C or so. If you are really careful you can even do this reattachment while the LCD is being powered so you can immediately see the success.

How about warming the ribbon connection with a heat gun and applying pressure as it cools (one half, then the other, to avoid dislodging)? Might that soften the adhesive enough to re-establish the connection (even for solder)?
  • Hey! I’m having vertical lines on my LG monitor too. Mine are thicker and are bands of multicolor lines though. Any tips on what I should look into? I bought it off eBay and the ad mentioned it was “rasterized” thanks in advance

Very informative video. Have a similar issue, when watching the TV for 2-4 hours, a entire column 2" wide will draw itself top to bottom. I am assuming it is due to a heat related issue. This is an ancient TV, one of the original Hatachi 42 HD plasma tv's. 2006. Turn it off, let it cool down and its fine again for another 2 to 4 hours. Had it apart to replace the power board a few years back.
  • @Sharp_Stone
Can you also use electrical contact spray to clean up the connections of corrosion?
  • @teksgeroi
On my new oled tv there are few quite vague vertical lines on some certain static background colors that disappear (and appear) when you move your head. I guess this is a problem with the panel itself?

Thank-you for your TV repair videos. It allowed me to mostly fix my 75" QLED Samsung. TV was cycling from on to off. Replaced the power board. But still have a single multicolor vertical line. Have cleaned several times the the T-con ribbon cable connectors plus done resets, made sure software was updated and line appears on all inputs. So I am thinking the Main/T-con board got damaged when the power board faulted. Does that make sense?
  • @Stonehound503

I have a 50inch webos powered rca, I was having horrible distorted image and lines.i unplugged the right ribbon cable, and a had half a screen white and the other with 90 mostly clear image. I did the tape method on ribbon cable and the distortion went away along with most of the lines. No matter how I taped the cables the lines were there. I replaced the tcon board and the lines a lot less visible (95%) repaired now. I wonder if my problem is more the ribbon cable/connection?
