  • Hi, Nice build. I'm an ex HC1 engineer (and been involved all the way to the Mk6) and I can see that Airfix have obviously cut a few corners and reused moulds from other variants (HC2 and later). As an example the 'wiring and pipes' at the rear of the cabin weren't visible on the HC1, there was a variety grey plastic cover panels over them that were a right nightmare to fit. These were removed from HC2 onwards so that hydraulic leaks could be easily identified. Similarly the rectangular panel on the right side (same area) is the 'maintenance panel,' that was introduced from the HC2 onwards. Another little bug bear I have with a lot of these kits is that the cabin seat back straps cover the cabin windows, this was (and still is) a big no-no as the cabin windows can be jettisoned in an emergency but the straps positioned there would then impede escape. Many of these things is just me being picky as I worked on them for years so have detailed knowledge that I appreciate the layman wouldn't be aware of. All in all excellent build from your perspective but Airfix could / should have made a few tweaks to the interior.
  • Airfix have come a long way in terms of fit. Those jigs are great tooling that I'm surprised a lot of other kit brands haven't picked up.

I live ten miles from RAF Odiham....Chinhooks make my house shake every time they fly over.....Superb aircraft....
  • Absolutely stunning. My painting is no where near to that standard

The Chinook is my favorite aircraft. I have built Trumpeters 1/35 CH-47A and that kit is massive. I had to hang it because I didn't have the shelf space. I think 1/72 is a perfect size kit for this aircraft, not too big and not too small. 1/48 would probably be okay, but still on the large side. At first, I couldn't comprehend the dusty rose color you were using, but in the end, yeah, it was a good choice! However, I would have left the triangles slightly more prominent. I think hairspray chipping parts of the triangles would have been my approach. I also think you did an appropriate amount of weathering. Many modelers love the weathering process so much that their end results are often unrealistic and overdone. In the end, you've got a lovely build of which you can be proud.
  • Bravo! Looking good, neutral tones are not so easy to create depth with. Taking notes as I watch. All the best. Ken
  • @orion834
Great work, look forward to more of your articles in PAM too
  • Neat! I have a photo of ZA707 EV at Mildenhall airshow in 1991, and shows it in a desert base colour streaked in a narrow hex dark green pattern and Black undersides. It has the air filters, so, abit different to yours. I guess there were many schemes around that time.
  • I never got on with building helicopters, I did this chinook back in the 80s. Might have to give it another go now I've seen this build. Well done Luke. 👏🏻👏🏻
  • no words simply amazing thanks for the next model on my list
  • @kiwiruna9077
You have another winner there Luke. As with the SeaKing I hope in subsequent releases that they allow for US/Aussie variants. Also I hope Hannats if they don't, they should sponsor you. Finally I don't know how you do it , but the scripts for each build don't come across as repetitive or boring given the rate you are releasing videos.
  • @Aviation715
chinook is prob one of my fav helicopter maybe becouse we call it "banan helikopter" in swedish or banana helicopter in english amazing build btw
  • @Rab_1967
Well done, Chap! I look forward to seeing this big chopper in the shop... lol
  • I’m in the cadet force and it’s really cool that we have the amazing opportunity to go up in these amazing aircraft every now and then. Thanks for making this model look so good!
  • Wow! That was very artistic in the assembly of the CH-47 Chinook! I had a few rides in these great machines when I served in the US Army and now seeing these beauties fly around still gets my heart racing and to see how much care and effort you put into bringing out this model to make it they way you did and to show me how and what you did it with is a lesson that is priceless! Thank You!
  • @KGmodels
Great seeing you get some different topics (although I know you have made a heli before) ,and great job on such an iconic aircraft. Also, last Sunday I went to Hannants,at 2pm expecting to see you,but sadly you weren’t there, maybe next time mate! 🫡 Have a great day!
  • @lesthiele4921
That sir was a absolute stunner of a build, I am more of a 48th scale fan, but COULD be convinced to try this chopper, best regarcs from a Kiwi living in Australia, Les
  • Really nice. You’ve made a great job of that. I like the weathering. I was going to do mine as Bravo NoWonder but seeing your model makes me think that a lean, mean desert machine may be the way to go!
  • @harry_1409
Another great build mate! I've got a soft spot for the chinook I used to live near RAF odiham where they're based and they fly quite low over my house all the time.
