Assiniboia Downs race 5 on July 20 subject of investigation

Published 2022-07-21
King's Witt looked "home and cooled" on the front end of race 5 on July 20 at Assiniboia Downs, but turning for home after jockey Sheldon Chickeness took several looks over his shoulder, the three-year-old gelding veered out and appeared to be coming to a stop before re-engaging to be second to Mucho Express.

This is beyond dirty. As a lifelong horse racing fan I've seen some suspect races but this takes the cake. They knew the 1 was a clear winner could've won by 20 lengths but he definitely pulled him up. I'd like to see who placed the big bets on an all/1 exacta. There's your accomplice.
  • Corruption at its finest, ban the jockey for life, cheeky look round to let the lads catch up.

What doesn’t help the jock is the fact he kept looking over his shoulders numerous times. I get something was amiss at the top of the stretch, but it looked like whatever happened he was shooting to be 2nd or 3rd.

Wow that was crazy! It looked like he was easing up as soon as he hit the stretch.

At first I thought he was pulling up the horse because he might have felt something happening, like an injury, with the horse so easing it up, but then he goes again - really strange.
  • The jockey made it look good at the wire but he definitely held the horse back into the stretch. Bush track a lot of cheating going on.

How many times did the jock look back looking for the 5 horse. When the 5 finally passed him he rode for second place. There must have been a very compelling reason to finish second.

Easy solution to this; Investigate financial records of the jockeys and trainers. Lifetime bans for any corruption.
  • Watched and been affiliated with racing for 30+ years. That was really hard to justify. I could understand being tired after 3/4 in 1:09 flat with improving fractions. But that was insane!

It's too bad. Me and my dad have played ASD every day since the end of last season and can confidently say we won't wager another dollar at that track after seeing that last night. Very disappointing but at least we still have Hastings to look forward to.
  • That's why I never bet donkey tracks. Been around for 30 yrs. losing my money. Never ever have I seen B.S. like that and my home were the old Chicago circuit.
  • Can you say "fixed? This was almost as blatant as a race I was watching at the track, where the jockey was standing up on the stirrups heading into the stretch holding the horse back. It finished third.

Who is timing this race. A half in 49.3 and three quarters in 1:09. Might want to investigate that. If you have horses at AD going their third quarter mile in 20.2 when the jock is pulling up a horse, and no one is surprised.......come on man.
  • Majority of fixed races happen at tracks when a trainer is having trouble paying his bills. Horse that looks like he could not beat a fat man takes the lead out the gate and nobody challenges. End of story. That's how it happens like it or not. Mountaineer is notorious for this . Same in Harness racing. Only thing you can do is not bet. The tracks don't care . The backstretch laughs at you. The corrupted vets and state officials laugh at you. This is a game that 100% can not be beaten .
  • It would be nice to know if the Board of Stewards called the jockey in to explain his suspicious ride. He eases his horse to the outside despite having an easy lead and then suddenly the horses is asked to run full speed ahead??? That jockey is as crooked as they come and needs to be handed a substantial ban from competing.

If you really watch the race , that #1 horse was loaded jockey pulled him up at the quarter poll horse was headed then passed and came back with a vengeance lost by a neck. That jockey is fixing the race and probably has done it before too , should be banned for life or at least 5-10 years . They need to send a message this type of crap will not be tolerated.

Unbelievable, that is sickening, imagine having a win ticket on him!! Then you see him almost stop then go!! He obviously controlled the outcome, should be banned!! He actually looked over his shoulder!! Why?? And did it, twice!! to see how much to pull up, and allow the field pass!! Unbelievable!! I want to know how many other times is it not so obvious?? Unbelievable
