The case focused on a century-old New York state law that requires gun owners to show "proper cause" -- or a specific special need -- to carry a handgun in public.

Justice Alito to the attorney defending New York , "so if a woman is working late in New York City, takes the subway and then has to walk home late at night through a high crime area to get to her apartment, she would be denied a permit. Is that correct?" Response : 'That is correct, She has not demonstrated a need to have a gun."

Special need? Most people aren't high-profile rich people with body guards. Normal people just need to protect their families from thugs.
  • Well done Scotus!! Now law abiding citizens can protect themselves from the violent criminals the DA releases upon the population... And remain a free people. Government should fear the population and behave. 💞💞💞SCOTUS💞💞💞

people still get it wrong. the 2A was a restriction on government, not the people. what part of "shall not be infringed" isn't absolute to the so-called "moderates" on the SCOTUS? it IS an absolute right.

Stop comparing gun license to drivers licenses is the first trick, ppl seem to confuse privilege vs right.
  • @PointWithin
Moved from California to Texas and the main reason was terrible gun laws and inability to be able to carry a firearm to defend myself and family when out in public. This is really good to hear

Already illegal for anyone conceal carrying to consume alcohol, while carrying (no need for more laws there) Allowed to carry in locations that have alcohol but strictly can’t consume

Crime is out of hand in New York and people should have the right to carry a fire arm for protection !

I live in upstate NY, this isn't a big change for us, you still need a license to own a pistol in NY, the part they changed is you no longer need to send in a letter to get your license 'upgraded' to a concealed carry license. This is however a MASSIVE change for NYC, where it is nearly impossible to get that upgrade. Unlike what this news caster said, I don't think this changes where or how you carry, it just changes the process of getting a unrestricted license.

Criminals be wary !!! People not playing now !! WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS !!!! Them bastards was only giving out licenses to their families and the well connected ...even inside your home they would kick down your door and carry you to jail !!! Bastrads u can't do that now

Totally disgusting that it took 100 years to get rid of this unconstitutional law.
  • Great day for freedom in America! Criminals forget to obtain concealed carry licenses, law abiding people can now even the playing field. This completely changes the dynamics, now criminals won’t know if a potential victim is armed. This will provide added protection to people who choose not to carry a firearm.
  • Good. The government shouldn't infringe on to people rights. If you don't want to carry then don't that is your right. If tou want to carry you should is your right.

It reminds me a scene from the series BILLIONS. I was quite digusted by this beauraucratic mess, it's reliving to see the power restoration to the good people of America.
