Dublin Airport in the 60s

Published 2016-02-24
This is a small piece from "Lorcan Film Unit" (also know as the Crowe family) piece on the Dublin Airport.

Once again firefighter and historian by all accounts Mr Leslie Crowe has captured some great footage of Canals.

There is more of this to come and it is great to see that this is being passed on to anyone that is interested around the world. So if you know any of the people in the videos please email.

Hope you enjoy.

The main subject is Aer Lingus Vickers Viscount EI-ALG. Also seen is a Fokker F27 Friendship. The Viscount takes off from runway 35, which is now little used. EI-ALG had joined Aer Lingus in February 1960 on acquisition from Eagle Airways and Vickers converted it from its original V.805 to Aer Lingus's V808 configuration. It was retired in October 1969 and scrapped at Dublin in 1972, along with most of Aer Lingus's redundant Viscount fleet.

Thanks. I remember as a kid going to the airport just to look in wonder. It was never the same when they moved to the newer terminal.

"Aer Lingus at Dublin Airport in the 60s" would be a better title. Very little airport related scenes.
