You can just search "Xbox 360 torx" on eBay for the screwdriver bit. They're really cheap.

This video will show you how to fix an Xbox 360 Power Supply. I bought my Xbox 360 Slim a little over a year ago and it's already malfunctioning. The fan stops working and shuts down my xbox. The green light on the power supply turns red and it shuts down. I contacted customer support and since I'm out of my 1 year warranty, they would have to charge me $35 + shipping to send me a replacement power supply. I figure, might as well try to fix the one I have so that's what I did. It did fix the problem of my xbox shutting off after a short period, but unfortunately, it's still making a bit of noise. Better than nothing though.

The lamp was yellow and flickering. Then not lit at all. So, began to clean the fan with an air gun... it works again. There was not a lot of dust at all. I also removed the exhaust port baffle, which you can see once your in there. I also drilled a hole so its a direct exhaust instead of the two small slits. Thanks

If the power brick is very loud slap it and it will quiet a little
  • Thank you so much. I opened up the power brick to find that it was severely covered in dust and a lot of dust had been trapped in the fan causing it not to work. I cleaned it out and it now works quietly and efficiently. Great video. Keep it up.

Make sure that your AC adapter isn't plugged into a surge protecter (extension outlet, power strip etc.), but in a wall outlet instead.

I used this video as an instructional and would pause step by step and pull apart my power brick as mine was having the same issue. It was amazing the amount of dust that collected in the fan, and after cleaning it works fine. thank you for posting this.
  • No security bit for the screws? Take a small flathead and break the tiny metal security tab inside the head of the screw. Worked for me, I'm playing right now.

Man you're my hero! Had this problem for a few months, even bought a new brick and the same thing ended up happening. Used this method and it's been smooth sailing so far!

Thanks so much for the video tutorial! It worked perfectly for me. At first, I would put my ear up to the brick and would hear nothing. Now I can hear the fan spinning. Also, I put some oil on the fan so it would spin fast and more quietly.

Your video is the only video that actually helps fix the problem. After watching your video I did the same to mine and it works just fine now. Thank you.

well it keeps shutting off for me but it isn't making noise but i do think t is my fan i might try this

Great video thanks, mine made a very loud noise. It runs silent now since removed the fan itself to reveal the copper coils and put a bit of silicone grease (applied with a small brush) to the moving parts, in addition to spraying with air. hope that helps others

Thanks for the guide. I panicked when I saw the security bit. Googled it saw a 33pcs set on eBay and it looked awfully familiar. Then I remembered I had one. All done and cleaned out. My fan still spins more than yours appears to in the video. There was a lot of buildup at the exhaust end. So its a wait and see. I had already ordered a new PS. But this will tie me over till it arrives and can always be an emergency spare. This will keep my 8 month old daughter happy with her Wiggles videos.
