In this comprehensive episode of flight training, join us as we delve into one of the most challenging aspects of becoming a Private Pilot - mastering crosswind landings and takeoffs. Our student pilot Sienna takes on the Alaska winds under my guidance, Chris Palmer, a dedicated CFI and flight school owner.

🌬️ Today's Focus: Crosswind Techniques
-- Real-Life Training: Witness Sienna's journey as she tackles crosswind conditions for the first time, a crucial skill for any aspiring pilot.
-- In-Depth Instruction: From takeoff to landing, observe how to maneuver and control the aircraft amidst the unpredictable Alaskan winds.

👩‍✈️ Student Pilot's Progression
-- Track Sienna's growth from her initial flights to tackling these new challenges.
-- See how she adapts to the demanding situation and hones her skills with each attempt.

🎓 Teaching Moments
-- I share insights on runway design, wind considerations, and the fine art of maintaining control in varying wind conditions.
-- Understand the principles behind "climbing into the wind" and using aeronautics to your advantage.

📹 Video Highlights
-- Experience the cockpit view of live training sessions.
-- Learn from both the student's and instructor's perspectives, capturing every critical moment of the flight.

I as a private pilot really like this kind of content. I feel like it’s really helpful for myself!
  • @mikercflyer7383
I am not a pilot but I enjoy watching Sienna progress toward her solo flight. Safe travels
  • @dabassmann
I've really enjoyed watching Sienna's progress. Please drop the volume of the music a bit as we have our volume turned up to hear y'all talking, then the music comes in and blasts our speakers. Can't wait to see Sienna do her solo flight!!! She's getting really really close from what I can tell. The longer format is fine, too!!!
  • I'm a student pilot as well and I find this format of longer videos extremely helpful, I can really see what the plane is doing and what kind of corrections are needed to fix it, as always great flying from Siena and great video!!!
  • @ProPilotPete
She did well, didn’t let the wind bully her around. Like you said just takes practice. She’s gettin it!
  • @jeromiegolab4533
Thanks! Super stoked to see her follow this dream! I’m 52 and just now following the same dream! So awesome to see the progress! Well done Sienna! I hope this little bit helps!

I really enjoy the longer format. Gives me a chance to feel the progression as I am about at the same stage as Sienna. Super fun to watch her learn.
  • I love watching Sienna’s progress – she’s an inspiration to those who are unsure of learning to fly. I also love Chris’ teaching style – it’s a great example for other instructors. Let’s get her to her commercial rating – I’m kicking in $10.

Fine instructing Chris...good that Sienna is getting real world cross wind experience, not always the case at certain airports. She is doing really well...throttle on !

I don't normally watch CFI videos, but have seen several now in my studies of aviation. I forget how I got here (probably from Browne's channel) but am glad I did. You sir are a fine CFI. I've grown weary of seeing those who are less-and sometimes tragically less, than you are. Thank you for being you-and sharing your life with us. I hope all your students are as capable as this gal. She's great.
  • @boydw1
Well done Sienna! One thing that might help with getting used to the feeling of the cross-controls during the crosswind landing flare, is practicing some forward slips.

I am about to book my intro flight. I like seeing detailed videos with the radio chatter. Your content is helping me understand things 🙏🏻 thanks!
  • I really have enjoyed watching Siennna progress and can reflect when I was young and flying. I had no fear then. God has directed me I other paths now but still fly occasionally. I was always fond of the C-172.
  • Yes, love the real-time, real situation learning. Keep them coming.
  • Thanks again for your videos. I enjoyed the format. I fly remote control planes and love flying. The videos help me fly and if I get a chance to fly for real I hope to remember things you have been showing. Well done Sienna and keep the flying going. It was a tough day and you made it look easy. I’m looking forward to the next in the series. As always fly safe.

What a great series 🤩 I sure wish this was all available a couple of decades ago when I was younger. My Dad was in the Canadian Airforce and I spent many hours hiding in the trees at the end of the runways watching the Harvard and Chipmunk trainers clawing their way to altitude and doing maneuvers. If a CF104, Saber or Voodoo jet came or went above me it made my whole day. Sometimes I could even catch the pilots eyes and they would wave back at me as I frantically tried to catch their attention. That would set me on a high for the whole day making that eye contact for a few seconds. It put me in the pilot's seat in my mind just long enough to fall in love with the whole concept of flight and what it must feel like. Now at 73 years of age spending much of my life on the water, I still dream of that feeling of controlling flight. I've flown in small aircraft and airliners as a passenger and am still awed that we can make flight possible! I'm too old to go for my pilot license now but log many hours on my MSFlight Sim. I've watched your students and you do these journeys together and loved watching them so much that I now fly my little 172 or my Savage Cub in and out of Homer regularly for practice. I live on Vancouver Island but Homer is my new Home Port....Keep up the great work 😁 "Altitude is Insurance"

Now that was some busy flying. I think Sienna did a fantastic job and the landings in the that wind were great. Sienna really soaking up all the information from you. As my first grade teacher would say " little Johnny is a great listener"
  • @RetreadPhoto
You both have to be proud of the difference in yoke control and confidence now compared to that first couple of flights. Booyah!!! Excellent radio comms too.
