Made in Abyss: Dawn of The Deep Soul is HORRIFYING

Made in Abyss Dawn of The Deep Soul is one of the most dark and gruesome anime films I have ever experienced but more than that it's the culmination of Nanachi's character arc and how she has to overcome her past. Bondrewd is an amazing antagonist and Pruska represents the hopeful optimism of adventure throughout the film.

I just need to get this off of my chest. Everybody loves to obsess over how amazing characters like Nanachi, Bondrewd, Reg, and Prushka are, but Riko doesn't get the love she deserves. She's by far the most underrated character in this series. She's a great protagonist with amazing character development, especially in the upcoming S2 if you've read the manga. The day Chapter 46 gets adapted is going to be glorious.

The thing I like about Bondrewd's character arc is that he didn't change in the end, the way of achieving his goal did. He already gave his humanity away, and is completely single minded in his mission. The only reason he stopped was he was doing was because he saw that the crew had the strength and resolve to complete his mission. He essentially tricked them in the end to leave on good terms because he may have a time where they would be useful in the future. Really sad and frustrating but also really good story writing

I like how it’s disturbing for a reason not just for shock value.

A lot of people think the highlight of the film was Bondrewd and Prushka but for me, Nanachi was the the emotional core of the film and her character arc is just so endearing. Today, I hope to capture what made Made in Abyss Dawn of the Deep Soul so captivating! Minor spoilers ahead, enjoy!

Bondrewd is the type of villain I love the most... He's completely unhinged... But he's absolutely sure that he's doing the right thing to a point where the calm tone of his voice almost never wavers...

The movie is rated 12+ in Germany. Like, you know..... a movie meant for children.

Garden of the Flowers of Resilience was in the 4th layer, not the 5th. The 5th layer is the Sea of Corpses and is a cold snowy wasteland.

Having read the manga so far, I can say this isn't the darkest part of Made in Abyss. Depends on the beholder, really...

Everyone always talks about how deeply disturbing and horrifying this anime is but they never talk about how completely heartbreaking it is. It's been a couple months since I read the manga and just watching this video has me crying remembering everything that happened

Puroshka's backstory alongside bondrewd was so emotional especially the scene when he decided to adopt her
  • While not strictly an either/or situation, the culmination of Nanachi's character arc is often eclipsed by the Prushka stuff in overviews which ultimately does a disservice to both themes as they are ultimately quite entwined. There exists a persistent rumor that Nanachi was supposed to die at the conclusion of this arc, but was spared by the author...

I'm a little confused why so many people liked Bondrewd and Prushka's relationship in a 'aw, this is so cute' way. Narratively it is interesting but how are people looking at it with such rose coloured glasses when we are told outright that Bondrewd only adopted Prushka because he saw that love and connection could be exploited for his research. Him adopting her was more an act of manipulation, selfishness and cruelty. His 'love' for her came from what she could give, he never intended to protect or care for her outside of what he would gain from it.

If not for Prushka, I don't think they would have been able to go deeper. She literally became they key to continuing their journey.

"And in some senses, Pruska will always be with Riko" *Smiles in manga reader*.

My favorite parts were seeing all the serious moments. It shows what these kids and even the adults have gotten themselves into. Seeing reg wounded, prushka dying, riko and nanachi being emotionally traumatized, and even seeing bondrewd set back on his plans. Seeing all that is great in my opinion because you hardly ever see actions/consequences like that happen. And it's even better seeing them push through all that trouble and continue on their journey.

As someone who has moved around a lot, and “been on many adventures”, I’ve said many goodbyes, and each one comes with a sense of bittersweet pain and joy wrapped into the same images and memories. That’s exactly what this series feels like. I almost feel as if the abyss is a metaphor for the the loss of innocence that we experience with the passage of time and new experiences. Some people never dig into it all, they are the surface dwellers. Among those who dig, there will be a few who lose themselves.. but the ones who hold on to love for others and a sense of wonder at the experiences to be had, they discover their true selves. I have never had an ayahuasca trip but Made in Abyss is the second closest I’ve come (after that special brownie when I was 19). It digs up such deep, unprocessed emotions from childhood until now. It feels like my Ghibli or my Disney. It does for me what those seem to do for people who are ok with things being more sanitized. I haven’t done any anime content here but I may have to make a video on this.

This movie was superb. They perfectly potrayed the arc and honestly...if you think it was too dark, you need to brace yourself for season 2. The horror and dread and darkness hasn't even hit its peak. I wonder how much will make it onto screen and how much will be censored
