I’ve never considered myself a tiger guy, but when I saw the announcement that Takom were releasing 3 x Tigers I was a little excited. I’d built tigers in smaller scales but never in my preferred scale of 1/35. I loved every part of the Hetzer Takom release last year and if that was anything to go by then it would be the perfect opportunity to build my first 35th scale Tiger 1.

By now You’ve probably all seen the images of the beautifully rendered and moulded parts in these kits. The level of detail and the natural looking organic shapes in the Zimmerit look absolutely stunning. The kits come with link and length tracks that look lovely, even if the guide horns come as separate parts. They also come with a small amount of etch as well as a metal barrel.

But inbox reviews and studio generated pictures can never truly tell you what the model is like, so today I am going to take you through the build phase of this kit. I’m going to try and highlight some of the optional parts and share the information I have as to when you might want to use them.

The more choices the merrier. I never can understand anyone bitching about model kits. No one is forcing anyone to buy a kit . .and other companies models don't sell takom kits. It's logical for Takom after king tigers and Panthers. And you are spot on when it comes to versions

Doing a build review, pointing out a few 'pay attention here' moments, is of so much help to modellers wanting to get this kit (box of kits). Thanks for investing the time in the build review! Its a great help!
  • @ravensfootball52
Thanks for not just doing a box review. Actually building the model helps tremendously

Not another Tiger! But a big thanks for your video, which enable me to know more about modern models offerings.

Otto Carius gets all the love from model companies(deserved) I just wish we could get a Kurt Knispel example from one of the big 1/35th manufacturers.

Lovely review, can't wait to see you painting it.

A pleasure to watch. A lot of research and work went into this to produce such a slick, informative, beautifully produced and entertaining vid. Cheers!

The best Takom review (build review!) seen- the link in link tracks with guide-horns: to be candid, are the only thing throwing me from buying ANY of these Takom kits…although- watching you do the work, detailing and showing us the issues: how to resolve them, is encouraging… NOT having the ability to “easily”remove tracks for weathering, ditto the road wheels etc. for “fear” of breaking off guide horns, or bits of track- the hours needed to assemble the track (getting old, stiff fingered and eyes weaker) - taking away too much time from the rest of the build (and life)…. With the amazing mold technology available now- one would think that hell, why not Mold the tracks around the drives and returns- then fill in with length of track- or high tech band tracks with guide horns molded in (NOT like Dragons Magic Tracks!) - no worries about breaking bits when moving in display cases or to showings- something new. Spending time on details; is vital… as I micro drilled out the barrel of Tamiya ball mounted MG-34 on a Jadgpanther! Stunning MG-34s on that Takom! Cheers and a Good Night To All-

Thanks for this as I am also awaiting the Tigers big box. This has really whet my appetite to build the kits.

Hi Clayton, excellent build review, much appreciated 👍 I will surely get some of these for myself...
  • @hanshansenhanst
Without having seen this kit in all its detail (might be a great one): No. There are really enough Tiger kits of great quality out there.

Thanks for another great video, I've got this on order and looking forward to making the same version you have. Thanks for all the tips👍

Love all the different options. The double hole optical range finder Was a weak spot. When hit with a shell it would make a big hole. The single optical range finder although less acurate over long range made the metal stronger and less likely to fail with a shell hit.
