CrowdStrike outage: Airlines, banks and hospitals impacted worldwide by faulty Microsoft update

Cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike said that the issue believed to be behind the outage was not a security incident or cyberattack — and that a fix was on the way. The company said the problem occurred when it deployed a faulty update to computers running Microsoft Windows.

Is IT outage the new lingo for hacked? I am so glad we are forcing everything to go digital. Makes complete sense when they cant keep the current systems up and running.

I was in IT for many years and saw the dependence people had on their computers to work. I informed the people at the top but they couldn't understand so I was wrong. Too many at the top won't listen to how vulnerable they are. Too many depend on their phone to tell them what to do. Lose your phone and you lose your life?

More importantly, my xbox wouldn't let me sign in, so I was mildly inconvenienced and unable to watch netflix. I had to read a book like a well-adjusted adult. It was pretty nice, actually. Won't stop me from falling right back into my old habits as soon as they are available to me again though, lol

Love it when the reporter gets the context soo wrong! It’s not a Microsoft outage, it’s a Cloudstrike outage. But using Microsoft as the title gets more traction! Windows systems that use cloudstrike are affected! But that’s not all windows systems! And it’s not Microsoft’s to fix!

WHY are our systems so vulnerable that if there's a disruption in one company, so many things go down within a whole continent? That's just crazy. It's is a recipe for a major disaster that's most likely just around the corner. Too many vital services depend on one internet company. Reply

If it was a hack they would have to deny it or worldwide users would realise just how vulnerable they really are, right?

This sounds like the last thing you would expect from a cyber security contractor. If this was the fault of a person instead of software, they would either be fired or demoted into obscurity. Other reputable cyber security firms should be sending in their proposals to take over these contracts.

It should be mandatory that companies who control public companies that have an impact on the general public's day to day living [Banks, Phone,Transport and Information etc] to have a back up system, it appears by this fiasco there does not. I mean i was not able to access an ATM or my money at all today, this could happen in this day and age, after years and years of insane profits for the bank?.
