Gale's Bugged Dialogue Regarding His Surname

Figured I'd record and upload this for the benefit of my fellow Gale enjoyers!

When you meet Tara on the rooftop of the Temple of Ilmater in Rivington, Gale will mention that he is glad you have met Tara and express a desire to cook a meal for you in his kitchen back in Waterdeep. However, there is an entire dialogue tree missing from this conversation due to what I can only assume is a bug of some kind. I have included below the steps that are necessary to restore the dialogue (working as of Patch #4). Hopefully Larian will fix it themselves at some point and this faffery will no longer be required.

(I do not know if the dialogue is different in any way if you are not romancing Gale. All three of my playthroughs so far have been dedicated to this silly wizard.)

Step 1: Install the BG3 Mod Manager by downloading the "BG3ModManager_Latest.zip" file, extracting it and placing it in an unprotected folder somewhere. (Googling BG3ModManager will get you to the right place on GitHub. Unfortunately, YouTube will not allow me to include a link here.)

Step 2: Run the BG3ModManager.exe file inside the file structure.

Step 3: In the top left of the mod manager, you will see a tab named "Tools". Click on this, then on "Download & Extract the Script Extender" in the drop down menu. Click yes on the subsequent window pop up.

Step 4: Check that there is now a file named "ScriptExtenderSettings.json" in D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Baldurs Gate 3\bin. If there isn't, create a text file and rename it to ScriptExtenderSettings.json. It needs to be this file name and extension exactly, so NOT something like "ScriptExtenderSettings.json.txt".

Step 5: Open this file you have just created and paste in the following (make sure to save before closing the file):

Step 6: Run BG3. After hitting "Play" in the Larian launcher, a second window should start with the game.

Step 7: Go and talk to Tara on the rooftop. Once the conversation is over, Gale will have an exclamation mark above his head. Before speaking to him, follow step 8.

Step 8: Go to the window that opened along with the game. Press enter. The console will say:

Entering server Lua console.

Step 9: Copy and paste the following in (all one line), then hit enter:

Osi.SetFlag("9ccec403-dc18-661d-ed53-e5472b8145b4", GetHostCharacter())

Step 10: Talk to Gale. A new dialogue option should appear.

    ftr, for people who object to his wearing purple here, he’s uh. wearing a purple robe when tav first pulls him out of the portal, sooooo clearly gale himself is fond of it.

    This dialogue is adorable, but him breaking the 4th wall at 0:21 and looking straight at me with his enormous baby cow eyes almost gave me a heart attack 😭 I love this man sm and he deserves the worl

    I swear with every patch something with Gale gets broken. I love Larian for continuing to update the game, I just wish it didn't come at the cost of content experience when the game came out.
