Spoiler alert I think the main reason why Bowser lost is because his feats are really inconsistent. able to survive a black hole, gets killed by lava

Bowser is not illiterate he was able to read in Bowser’s inside story. Throughout the years Bowser has developed more magical powers. He is also a supernatural being with magic so Ganon shouldn’t be able do disintegrate Bowser. Bowser is not an idiot, I’ve played my fair share of Mario games including the ones with dialogue, he may not be a super intellectual like E. Gadd but he’s not exactly a moron, I’ve even seen some hinted strategic mentality in him. Further more as arch nemesis of Nintendo’s mascot, he should be the most powerful Nintendo Villain.
