Carbonyl chemistry, making aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids, esters, thioesters, acid chlorides, amides, anhydrides. Using oxidation reactions (we use CrO3/pyridine = PCC and CrO3/water = Jones), we look at the beginnings of organic synthesis of the functional groups in our course.

These lectures follow my self written organic book. I wrote it for a one semester abbreviated organic course that I teach. It is not intended to cover all of the material in a one year course, but does intend to cover the main logic arguments of organic and the main functional groups of organic chemistry.
