ugly privilege is the new pretty privilege

pretty privilege is over. UGLY is now cool. i know - it's hard to believe. it's no secret that girls everywhere are undergoing a range of different procedures to try and force their face and body into fitting the current standard of beauty. BBLs, lip filler, botox, veneers, liposuction, acrylic nails, hair extensions - the list never ends! so how on earth is it, that now being UGLY is actually the new pretty?
Well... it's pretty simple. We're all getting a bit bored of looking the same. Changing ourselves to fit in. We're sick of looking around and every female is starting to morph into the ONE FACE. There's beauty in diversity. And in a sea of instagram model clones, the new way to stand out - is to look *ugly*.
Now when I say ugly, I dont mean you're hideous or repulsive to look at. Quite the opposite actually. That may have been the definition of ugly centuries ago, before tweakments were a thing, but now? In 2024? Girls think theyre ugly if they dont look like a bratz doll. you have a nose bigger than your barbie's? You're ugly. Got petite lips? Ugly. Does your body behave like a normal body in that you have cellulite, a belly and stretch marks? Sorry, you're 'ugly' too.

But if being pretty in 2024 means surgically altering everything about yourself that makes you YOU? I'd rather be ugly

Correction, you still can't be ugly, you have to be ugly in the right way
  • Feel bad for Meg .. all the interviewers were perverted men with unprofessional comments

I feel like "ugly privilege" doesn't work in real life, if you're not a celebrity. Sure, if you're already famous, it makes you stand out more if you have unique features. But in day-to-day life, people who are considered to be attractive will always be treated differently and have better chances in life than somebody who's "ugly".

shaving your eyebrows/bleaching them ≠ making yourself ugly. it's just another trend they're following.
  • I feel like ugly privilege only works in media. When you're "ugly" irl people will treat you differently than if you were pretty and all we can do is just don't give a shit about it🤷‍♀
  • I don't believe Dove Cameron or anyone else is trying to make herself look ugly. She made herself pretty enough to pull off looking edgy and still be popular. If she were genuinely ugly, the edgy look wouldn't be popular.
  • But all of these examples are of people who already have pretty privilege, and financial privilege, and fame. You can’t consider ugly privilege to be “in” until people can gain financial privilege and fame without ever having pretty privilege. Being able to “turn off” your pretty privilege is an even bigger privilege not afforded to most.

all those people who interviewed Megan should never work as an interviewer again

They still want to be pretty. They just also want to be “alternative”.

Still, if you’re not the right type of pretty, you can’t be the right type of ugly
  • The silence around Women’s Magic Truths is unbelievable. This book reveals powerful techniques, yet people remain unaware. Don't miss out – discover what everyone's ignoring!

When it comes to looks you can never win as a woman .this society is sooo shallow
  • I wouldn’t call it “ugly privilege”, it’s more that everyone who is considered “conventionally pretty” by todays standards looks so copy paste (mostly due to same surgeries/same beauty trends) that society’s pendulum is swinging back to craving more unique features that go outside of those set standards.
  • If being unique means everyone bleaching their brows blond it’s not very unique….

It’s not ugly privilege it’s the cyclical nature of beauty standards. In another 5 years it will be something else.
  • @Nora-tu3ns
being edgy is not being ugly. Ugly people don't choose to be ugly
  • I think we mistake the "ugly" with ugly. These women are still beautiful... flawless skin, beautiful teeth/hair/shape/makeup.. it is not the "REAL" ugly. We are still very far from accepting the normal appearance as beautiful.
  • They’re not trying to be ugly, just unique. It’s like Tilda Swinton and Cate Blanchett have those elvish, ethereal features that look a little androgynous and otherworldly. That’s what they’re striving for since that’s unique and makes you stand out for acting roles.
  • but I feel like „ugly“ features are only celebrated when the rest of the person fits the beauty standard.
