I've got Delphinium Pacific Giant in my Icelandic garden for 10 years now. Always produce gigantic flower spires, even in the most miserable summers. Never have to worry even one bit about them. Most reliable, care-free plant in the garden.

I love to coax my delphinium to bloom twice by cutting them back after the first bloom. They are fun to collect and save seed, too.

They are hell to grow and the snails and slugs devore them and the damp rots them,I love them but they have very particular requirements

In norway delphinium are fully perennial :) but only the fully hardy types.

I am considering growing delphs in my front garden near the back as you suggested. However, this would place them close to the front house window, a few feet from where my cats like to lay and enjoy the breeze that comes in that direction. I know the plant is poisonous to cats as far as ingestion, but could the airborne flowers or seeds cause problems for them? Please let me know. Otherwise, I plan to just stick with hollyhocks for height and safety.

VERANDAH. Pot bound. Novice. Leaves promise but still suffer in spite of Partial Sun/ Shade thing. Verandah north facing and evening sun in all weather to west which is natural. June. Water every 48 hrs. Purple and lilacs coming up well. So why are my leaves and stems failing? Burnt tips on leaves. Glasgow UK. Thanks anyone.

I live in zone 9. My main shoots and side shoots are done blooming. If I cut back to soil, will new main shoots start growing?
