In today's 9th episode of Octopus Reacts, our friendly little cephalopod is faced with exploring a hammer. Something he's never seen in the wild.

We placed the hammer in the experiment tank and let our octopus explore it. His reaction was a little uneventful which prompted us to intervene. We thought we would show him how the hammer is used in hopes of him picking it up and maybe using is the way we would. Instead, he proceeded to turn himself into a hammer and mimic the motion. We would love to state conclusively that the octopus is mimicking the hammer in this video, however, this behaviour of stretching himself out like this is something we have seen some of our octopuses do in the past without the presence of the hammer. Still, as you can imagine, we were very excited to see him do this while we showed him how the hammer is used. Was this done intentionally? We can't say for sure. But it sure was a hoot to watch!

When the man stared to hammer in the tank The octopus was trying to protect it's little home. How adorable is that. The one thing that matters to him.... is his home. πŸ’›πŸ™πŸ§‘πŸ™πŸ’›πŸ™πŸ§‘πŸ™πŸ’›πŸ™πŸ§‘πŸ™πŸ’›

Octo seemed to get scared when the guy showed him how to use a hammer, he went into his house. Does he understand that a hammer can be useful but also destructive...? Well, fellas, you got to be careful now - if you upset him you know what he'll do...

I just found your channel and I love it! Forgive me if this has been already asked - have you ever given musical toys to your octopus friends to amuse themselves with? Like underwater bells? How about large, easy to handle lego-style building blocks? I would love to see an octopus creating art and music. I think they would enjoy the chance to do so. Thanks again for this amazing channel.
