I love, love this and always want to make or buy it myself. But for the poor and non technical among us: the amount of cargo you can carry on a normal city bike with luggage racks back and front is just as much and even larger than with these kind of add-ons or bike trailers or dedicated cargo bikes. On the back carrier rack you hang large side bags (the kind that are used to deliver newspapers), a large crate on top of the rack and also a large crate on the front carrier rack. (I live in the Netherlands where most traditional bikes have standard carrier racks front and back.) I fasten and secure everything with old inner tubes, which are basically giant elastic bands and you can use them for everything. If I need to carry even more stuff I use a hand truck/trolley as bike trailer and an inner tube as trailer hitch tied to my back carrier. It works. It is amazing how much I can transport with this simple set-up. I even used an inner tube to stabilize my front wheel (preventing the wheel to flip to one side when parked and/or is heavily loaded). Transporting long materials like timber or pipes: I use two inner tubes as loops, one attached to the back rack the other either hanging from the handlebar or over my shoulder like a handbag, then hang the load in the loops.

Nice but some tips from a builder.. Put spacer sleeves between bearings. Use hardened shank bolts for any axle. Use dampers for non suspended pivot loads.
