This Dam Fails in just under a year.
check out the following playlist to see how I fixed my biggest failure to date

Building the Pond:    • Building the Pond

ORIGINAL POST:

Lets try this again! Take two on the Dam building video. If you are new to the channel, we have been in the process of clearing land in the middle of the woods for a new fishing pond. We are finally at the point where the dam can be pushed up. To do that we have rented Dirt Perfects John Deere 850 bulldozer and Caterpillar D4G dozer. We also brought in Jerry. Jerry is a retired equipment operator who works for Dirt Perfect part time and has come out to build our pond dam for us. We think it turned out well, but be sure to let us know in the comments!

Full disclosure, this dam ended up failing and we decided to make the best of it by expanded the pond - here is the start of that -    • Starting Pond Repair and Expansion Pr...

To see how u old-timers run that equipment makes me really appreciate the new equipment I run and the simplicity of the controls on them now
  • Having ran a dozer in high-school for a similar build, watching Jerry is pure ASMR. Smooth and consistent cuts without self leveling tech, you sir are an artist on the sticks.
  • Jerry,,,, a beautiful bit of craftsmanship with sculpting that raw idea into something worthy of polishing . 😁
A gem in need of a tad bit of polish to have her ready for waning evening gatherings, a fire pit, and the sound of children laughing.
  • @WombleUK
That is some incredibly neat work Jerry did on this pond.

Jerry has done you proud & his experience really shows.
  • I'm happy to see you're satisfied with the pond build. Major shout out to Jerry, Dirt Perfect, and neighbor Gary for everything you've all done. Have a blessed and safe week. Stay healthy.

Love it; been driving tractors all my life and I can appreciate a seasoned skilled operator. We rent equipment that my son and brother operate, but for stuff like that we pay a professional. We built a professional shooting range and it took weeks and spent more on fuel than to have it done. We have a 5 and 8 acre fishing swimming pond on each farm, money well spent.

You can tell just from watching Jerry on the dozer he’s a pro from the old school. A little direction a few reference marks is all he needs. Dirt perfect is a class act. Watch he daily. The neighbor now has a fishing pond to spend time at. Cool video all the way around.

Jerry works his magic once again! He is such an amazing and experienced operator! Great also to have a great neighbor! Congrats on the next step closer to your dream!
  • @mikesmith8952
Having friends and coworkers like you do has given you and your family something very special indeed. The memories that will happen here not to even consider the videos are something few others will ever get the chance to enjoy like you will. Dirt perfect, Jerry, Gary the neighbor are all special people but mainly the best of Friends. You won the lottery Mike as well as your family.. Enjoy. Look forward to many more videos of your life snd escapades!

Just as good the second time around. Thanks again to Dirt Perfect and Jerry for their expertise. This is a great looking pond. Stay safe, wishing you and your family the best.
  • Jerry always does an awesome job. But you did hundreds of hours clearing, building roads and so much other stuff. Pat on the back to all involved. Was nice of DP to let you rent his equipment. It will be a project you can be proud of.

Love to see a drone view. My first dozer experience was 52 years ago on an old Cat. It had a hand crank pony motor to start the engine and a A frame cable lift system for the blade! My Step Dad wouldn’t teach me until I could clean the tracks from mud first. But I cleaned them!! Great memories

Shame all the comments disappeared, anyway here is mine :-
First of all thank you to Jerry for putting in his time and expertise to your pond, thanks to Gary for suggesting this pond, Mike for supplying the plant for this job and you Mike for saying yes and filming it.

I liked the " Jerry rigged" log stop, which hopefully worked !!!
Looking forward to next year when you add the finishing touches to the lake, no doubt you would have had to open a coffee can to pay for this dam to be built !!!
Keep up the good work sir, in all your roles!!! 👍🇬🇧💪😎
  • @andymack5093
Hey Mike, if it's either your channel or DP's, we always know it's going to be a great day when Jerry with his "calm efficiency" is on site, whether it's in the past, present and hopefully lots more in the future! I bet there's earthmovers all around the world who would love to clone him!
  • @SuperIanjohnson
Great video, Mike. You must be very proud of what Jerry has achieved here. He is brilliant. Well done, Gary and Mike for their input, too. The end result is awesome !!
  • I've been through Derby at least twice. The last time I had just missed the Meet & Greet at the local fair. Got caught in that heavy rain storm and as I showed up everyone was leaving. Caught Mike and Gunner in the parking area. I hope to make it that way again some time soon and meet everyone. So many Derby legends, but Jerry is definitely the legend of legends. You can take the man out of the dirt business, but you can never take the dirt business out of a legend! Glad to see Jerry helping out Captain Kleeman get the pond built!
  • @digdrivediy
So cool! Man, sure looks different than when I was there only two weeks ago. Thanks to Jerry and Dirt Perfect for helping you to get that all accomplished. Brought back a bunch of memories for me watching that 850 run through the paces. I could almost smell the dirt too! Look forward to seeing it all greened up around the top! Great video! Small Tripod 😂. Gets me every time...
