Album Communiqué 1979.

Where do you think you're going
Don't you know it's dark outside
Where do you think you're going
Don't you care about my pride
Where do you think you're going
I think you don't know
You got no way of knowing
You got no place to go

I understand your changes
How long before you reach the door
I know where you think you're going
I know what you came here for
And now I'm sick of joking
You know I like you to be free
Where do you think you're going
I think you'd better go with me, girl

You say there is no reason
But you still find cause to doubt me
When you ain't with me girl
You're gonna be without me

Where do you think you're going
Don't you know it's dark outside
Where do you think you're going
Don't you care about my pride
And now I'm sick of joking
You know I like you to be free
Where do you think you're going
I think you'd better go with me, girl

Once one of my friend asked me why you always listening the old songs.he is a justin bieber kinda music guy. i asked him to sit, and i played this song. during the last guitar part he closed his eyes and i could see he is tightening his grips on the chair, his hands holding tight... then when the song was over i looked at him and i smiled; but he aint said a single word, nor he replied anything, no smiles nothing... then i told myself "hey Mark here is another guy for you, take him.." now he is a mark knopfler fan better than i do..
  • Played this at my dads funeral. Died of an aneurism at just 60. His favourite song of all time. He would always say he would give his right arm to play like Mark Knopfler. love this song so much. Miss ya me mucker x

2:30 and forth is the perfect example of Dire Straits’ ability to not overdo anything, but still be able to create a damn good increase of intensity. I love this song. «Come on..»
  • Bob Dylan lies awake at night wishing he could write songs as good as this.
  • Es ist einfach so krasse Musik und nicht zu vergleichen, mit dem, was heutzutage als Musik bezeichnet wird.. Unbeschreiblich.

Everytime I listen to this song everything falls in place. Mark is a genius. His guitar talks to you in so many ways. This is truly one of Dire Straits best song.

This is definitely an underrated song of DS and I think that’s why I like it more. Last solo is phenomenal.
