A widowed farmer, with a brave but brutal military past, decides not to join up when the British arrive in 1776. However, when his son enlists and is later captured by the enemy, the former soldier must abandon his new-found pacifist principles in order to rescue his oldest child, and forms a regiment of Carolina patriots, whose guerrilla tactics prove pivotal to the US war effort.

When he’s running with the flag he looks at each man individually like it’s each man’s responsibility to hold that line. I just love that.
-
“They had green eyes.” Such a small character moment but it’s so good.
-
It may not be historically accurate, but holy hell is it epic.
-
I know this is highly inaccurate but you gotta give Mel Gibson props, he knows how to make a good patriotic American movie
-
3:33 nobody talks about the regulars holding down while the militia retreats. What a bunch of legends…
-
"Bayonets!" The universal order for "it's about to get fuckin' nasty"
-
Mel Gibson. Single-handedly winning independence for both Scotland and the United States. Dude's had quite an impact on world history.
-
Tavington, DAMN HIM! DAMN THAT MAN! That part always get me 🤣

Imagine being on the battlefield and seeing Redcoats flee en masse. Must've been the most morale boosting sight to have beheld their eyes in years.
-
Although this final battle scene is a merging of the events of battles of Cowpens and Guildford Courthouse, it still makes for one terrifically brilliant action sequence.

I absolutely loved the Patriot when I was a kid, and still do. I probably watched it at too young of an age because of the brutality, but none the less it was one of my favorite movies of my childhood. I use to do re-enactments in the backyard based on the movie and I even did some with my friends. I showed them this scene to they could know what we were doing. Such great memories. I still watch the movie every once in a while.

This battle was based on a true strategy of the Battle of Cowpens. Militia went up acting tough the British came thought they were retreating and a whole another army was waiting on the other side of the hill!
-
This movie is more than 20 years old, and yet looks better and more realistic than Ridley Scott's 'Napoleon'.
-
At 5:40 far right corner the British soldier rolled his eyes and shook his head ive never noticed that 😂
-
Always brings a tear to my eye. Rest In Peace Revolutionary War veterans.
-
“Sir why are we letting them fire?” “Shut the fuck up jerry this is a great strategy”
-
this movie is probably what got me into history when i was young, as an adult, i know this entire thing is just fiction, but hey it still got me invested in history, and is an damn good film regardless
-
Its sad that there are not enough good napoleonic or flintlock era films.....i know these films need a high budget but they are epic
-
Finally an upload of the battle not cutting its pacing short.

For some reason the line "Artillery, concentrate on the centre. Drive them back." has been stuck in my head for 23 years.
