In this video, I’m reimagining Pokémon from a new angle - taking the original top-down pixel art format and "rotating" it into an isometric perspective!

I will forever think how goofy it is to have the tv in the MIDDLE OF THE ROOM! Imagine having the toilet be in the middle of a large room.
  • @hirogearguy
This can become a series remaking other iconic places from the original gb game, like gyms or other routes, even a combat in the forrest with metapods, that would be awesome

To anyone who is trying to build a video game with isometric graphics: real isometric (120° angles) and video game isometric (2:1 lines, which ends up being dimetric and not isometric) are not the same thing, so definitely work things out with your artist beforehand (speaking from experience here hahaha)

I deeply appreciate that you identify the trainer as Red and not as Ash, like so many others do. Shows that you really do care deeply.
  • @justChikoni
The isometric view really hits different this is beautiful
  • @Bakemonwithahat
Seeing you layer the blocks to construct the furniture is weirdly satisfying
  • @Flipdew
I absolutely love that you added Poliwhirl as yet another reference to Pokémon Adventures. Always my head canon Red starter Pokémon.

This one has such a homey feeling to it, the cramped form factor really does give it a unique flavour of nostalgia! ✨ While watching these isometric videos, I always have a fun time seeing the objects move around the room and remain in scale. It never gets old! Also, I liked that you pointed out the technique adding a bit of depth to the walls - it really does make it look like a slice of a space 😁
  • @craftminerCZ
Oh my, I was about to scream about the tile pattern being wrong after enlarging the room since it seemed like it was going to be left that way but the end result has it fixed. You have no clue how relieved I am
  • Wow!!! The way you made the bedroom it feels so alive! It has so much personality I kinda want a Pokemon game stylised like that it would be absolutely charming ❤
  • @julianapegas2043
Ohh I love this! It really does look like a bedroom now, I've always found it so strange how spacious the original was 😂❤
  • @moncef0147
That's beautiful. That cramped room just looks very cozy and nostalgic for some reason, i know this is gonna sound insane, but it looks delicious, and the palette just ties it all together.

Great demonstration of techniques, I also tend to use building-blocks when making certain isometric objects! Another valid technique is creating isometric shapes by stretching 2 isometric lines between 2 "flat" shapes (EX: Circles, to create an isometric cylinder) Or in the case of complex objects like Red, I stretch reference isometric lines across parts of my object, I can use such a line to make sure the feet are isometrically-aligned for example, as well as the hands.

This is awesome! I'm super happy with how it came out, and the way you reused the modular isometric blocks like you did in yout other video was super satisfying.
  • @angrypotato_fz
Cool! To me it's amazing to see how comfortable you seem to work in such a limited color palette, while creating very readable objects. I guess that the many hours of practice with monochrome palette (and other minimalistic ones) really pays off :) Great result! I'm glad you added a chair in front of the desk - it bugged me that there was no place to sit there :P
  • @thomassynths
"It's actually just neat to see things from another angle like this". Pun of the day!
  • @JayFolipurba
Splendid! And fairly smooth workflow, it feels like you've done this piece before, before you filmed it, it was so good right away. Or that practice really shows now. The animations are so cute. You're getting ridiculously good at this!
  • love the addition of poliwhirl at the end. I know you mentioned the manga as an inspiration for your red design, but i still always love more direct references to the manga like that.
  • @Mastervitro
Now we just need an isometric remake of the whole game :D
