Knowing that those people in those buildings were probably sleeping or just didn’t know what was happening,truly heartbreaking :’(

I have regularly been visiting Turkey for over 20 years. Some of the friendliest people in the world. But I found the state of their buildings in terms of construction quality very worrying and pointed it out often to my Turkish friends. If this quake happened in Istanbul (only a matter of time), the death toll would be in the hundreds of thousands. Bless the people of Turkey.

This shows how structurally unsound the buildings in the city are. Turkey really needs to renovate/rebuilt their buildings as earthquake-proof as possible in order to lower the danger of situations like this in the future. I genuinely hope everyone affected is doing well. Best wishes to Turkey and Syria.
