Mercedes 240D. 31 km.

I wish I could buy one of these brand new today. Simple, built to last, incredibly well engineered, and not designed to be replaced in 5 years time.

Ich kann mich noch genau dran erinnern, als damals 14 Jähriger, als in Sindelfingen im Werk unser 230 E, Taigabeige, um die Ecke rollte zur Abholung. Das war im November '81. Wir haben ihn heute noch.😍

Das ist echte Mercedes, keine MultiKulti fahrzeug. Es waren schöne zeiten😢

My dad has one since 1979 (he has it longer than I have lived), with 820k km on the odo, and to be honest, I couldn't tell. In essence, the engine is the same, other than some minor issues, he never really had problems with it. Paintwork is completely OK, it gets a thorough polishing once a year, and the inside is also quite OK, some parts are a bit faded, but nothing is broken, only the front passenger seat was redressed back in the eighties when my sister managed to throw up on it and the cleaning stuff my mom used to remove it left a brighter spot on the upholstery. My dad being a car mechanic and servicing it himself ever since he bought it might have something to do with the fact that it's in such a good condition. I keep telling him that the car is going to outlast even me & my children. 🙂

Unbelievable... A time capsule. She deserves a museum or 1 million kilometers on the road.

The build quality of these last typs W123 is never ever done any better on what ever car. These are ease 1.000.000 km cars. Whould LOVE to have this.

Well how do you think I feel watching this video? I worked as a young engineer at the Daimler-Benz engine plant, Marienfelde, West Berlin, in the late 70s, early 80s, involved in making hundreds of thousands of the engine shown in this video. It makes me weep quietly to see the 240 in this video. The colours of the various metal finishes in the engine bay, all those steel and rubber tubes, insulated cables, painted components....let me tell you, the unmistake-able diversity of origin of those components means that we see in the vid is utterly remakable- that car looks in almost every way exactly the same as the day it left Stuttgart. I'm 63 now, have owned, maintained and driven more than 150 incredible cars and bikes too, and the one thing I know for sure is the the DB W123 series, in many variants, was the best car ever built, bar none. What is the only car I own? A 1983 280CE CE in Midnight Blue (a full size 2 door coupe, DOHC 2.8ltr straight six, 5 speed manual- the pinnacle of the W123 series).

Dieselmotoren hören sich immer gut an. Die alten ganz besonders. Es erinnert mich an meine Kindheit in einem Strich achter😀und an den elfer Deutz😂

Mein Vater hatte damals einen 82er 230e für 900 mark gekauft. Unfassbare qualität, robustheit und komfort. Selbst riesige Schlaglöcher in der Straße haben dem Fahrwerk nichts ausgemacht 200 konnte man auch noch fahren. Definitiv eines der schönsten Sterne

Der W123 war schon ein schöner Wagen und zuverlässig. Gut das er so konserviert ist, da hat der Rost keine Chance . Habe ich mir schon fast gedacht , das es ein Zweitwagen war und er daher nie gefahren wurde. Der Erstbesitzer und Käufer war ja bekannt und Recht hatte er, die Neuen haben zuviel Plastik und werden immer hässlicher.

Ich hatte den Gleichen ende der 80iger Jahre. Danach das Gleiche Modell, aber ein 230 Benziner. Die Schönste Erinnerung ist heute noch der Klang beim Türen schließen. Wie ein Tresor!
