Newgrounds...it's known far and wide for providing the internet with some of the greatest flash games and animations ever made. The site has spawned animation careers for many notable figures online today, with some of many of the most popular online animators active today once being random plebs in the newgrounds forums. There are also a handful of INFAMOUS figures relevant to the history of newgrounds, one of which was SirTom93. Back in 2009, this Newgrounds creator made a threatening post on the forums, saying he was going to cause harm to others IRL. This would lead to users on the site rallying together, in an attempt to expose SirTom93 to police. This is that story.

If this happened on 4chan, SirTom would've been mocked, praised, and reported to the authorities, all at the same time.

My favourite Newgrounds moment was when I made an infinite loading screen and uploaded it and pissed a bunch of people off.
  • I like how he told the internet his full name, school and area he lived in and tried to commit a crime while boasting about it.

This is why you always take threats to school seriously, especially online, you never know if they're actually gonna do it and don't feel scared contacting somebody, because the faster we contact authorities the less likely anyone will get hurt.

Moral of the story: Never eat ice cream with Chris O'neill, it will awaken the evil within you.

Imagine an alternate reality where Chris did not buy him ice cream.
  • Between Sir Tom and the guy that runs Spirit Science, Chris eats ice cream with the weirdest people.
  • I recently tried to explain to my 13 yo nephew newgrounds being a young kid before YouTube and before easily playable games on online devices. I still look for flash games sometimes. The ultimate showdown of ultimate destiny, salad fingers and things I didn’t say like adult sections and other weird stuff. It was a crazy place. I’ll add I was young and wasn’t on the message boards

How does Chris always eat ice cream with the craziest people?
  • As someone who used to go on there from like 2003-2012 when I was a kid the nostalgia is insane. I really like that New Grounds is getting some attention not 4chan level but at least some. For a website that goes back to 1996 Who would have thought it could survive after flash died?

“Huh, I never heard of the guy” “Beginning in 2008” “Oh shit I’m old, that’s like 6 years after I grew up and stopped using Newgrounds”

Moral of the story: Don't underestimate the good you can do as a community.

Newgrounds had the original “you wont last five minutes” games

You know the website is good when one of their biggest Law-related controversies is when they prevented an arson attack.

0:34 I miss Edd Gould. Watching him when he was alive feels like a memory to me, seeing his joyful state feels like if I was in those years. Matt will keep the series alive, never forget. Edds world will continue spinning. 1988 - 2012

Moral of the story: make sure you DO make threats online if you plan to do something. That way people can find out ahead of time and stop you from hurting anyone.

So fun story, before he did this, my friend and I chatted with him quite a bit. We were also meant to have a meetup with a bunch of other local Newgrounds users, but for whatever reason it never materialised. We never actually ended up meeting him in person, but we did chat on MSN a fair bit, and I remember he had NOTHING but negative things to say about his high school. This was around 2008 I think. Also, quite by happenstance, I'm wearing my old Newgrounds t-shirt right now!

Cool recap! Glad we were able to stop him in time. Who knows if he actually would have done anything, but he did have all that stuff on him. I wish I kept logs of all my convos with everyone who helped. Deckheadtottie was instrumental in stopping this potential attack. He woke me up that morning so we could figure out his location. I believe I traced his IP and was able to see the general area where he lived. From there I found the closest school and relayed that info to Deckheadtottie who was in contact with the local authorities. I believe he called the school directly as well. Then someone messages me with Sirtom93’s real name so I relayed that to Deckheadtottie and he passed that along to the authorizes as well. It was a relief to learn they intercepted him in time.
