I was a lot younger when I saw - Bruce Almighty (2003) and the below dialogue really changed my whole belief about God. A single mom who's working two jobs, and still finds time to take her kid to soccer practice, that's a miracle. A teenager who says no to drugs and yes to an education, that's a miracle. People want Me to do everything for them, but what they don't realize is, they have the power. You want to see a miracle, son? Be the miracle.

I always liked the explanation God gives Bender in Futurama: “If you do everything, people will always depend on you. If you do nothing, then people lose faith. The point is to use a light touch so that people aren’t sure you didn’t anything at all.”

Bruce Almighty is proof you can make a silly comedy and still have a legitimently profound message

My interpretation of his "be the miracle" line is essentially, "Create the world you want to live in. And make it a world that doesn't need me to set things right."

"A teenager saying no to drugs and yes to education, that's a miracle" Mom, I'm a miracle!

Moments like this are why I feel Freeman is the best choice for God 😊

You can help a child to stand, but its up to them to take the first step.

I escaped from situations that it took more than forty years to understand - in terms of real bodily danger and threat. Throughout this, God's love and protection was always present, always near. It shocks me to realize that at the time I knew nothing of any of it. When I was trusting in God and leaning on him throughout that time, I never understood what enormous power lay behind the fragile words and faint praise that I had for God in those years. He was (and is) powerful and merciful beyond all measure. Everything in this film makes me remember how God really, really does has a sense of humour and all this with justice, mercy and compassion. I remain totally amazed...

tbh, if youre religious or not, that's how god is for most people. its doesnt matter if god is real or not. he is just a figure of hope for us to imagine, because we humans find it so hard to have hope in ourselves. It takes a huge HUGE burden of us, to just imagine there is a figure who is listening, who is all-knowing, who is doing whats best for us, who is only giving us challenges we can handle, who listens to our prayers - and answers them - and if he doesn't then it wasn't good for us - it allows us to accept life and keep looking forward and most of all, he is someone we can place hope in. God is hope, even in the darkest times. Doesn't matter if he's real or not - people need that.

The reason why this is better than Evan Almighty is because it tells us: What would you do with God's powers? Because there is a difference between saying what youll do and ACTUALLY doing it. "What if God was one of us?" Evan Almighty is like getting hit with a Bible over and over again.

Its....its just such a good movie i love every scene
  • God helps those who help themselves is the long and short of it. You can pray for miracles but you have put in the leg work on your end too. God gives people hope but people can make the most amazing and wonderous things happen.

Great advice. And it says a lot that Bruce made that his new closing line for the news at the end.

Liar Liar, Truman Show and this movie were Jim’s greatest work ever.

The Moon Runners sitting right by the Van Courtland Rangers while nobody is wasting nobody is a miracle

Someone once said that hope is something that in the darkest times is something you give yourself. You don’t need a god, you don’t need a religion, you need to hope that something can change, that something can happen. Because if there is no hope, no hope of a better tomorrow, no hope of a tomorrow, why keep on living at all if you can’t hope for something better?
