Well, I'll tell you what. When I was kid my Dad and Mom both drank...alot. I couldn't bring friends home after school because Dad might be passed out on the floor. He recovered when I was about 15. He was the bravest man I ever knew or ever will. Mom followed his example and also got sober forever. I'm 72 now. I miss them both everyday. They tucked me in at night. Put a roof over my head and good food on the table every night. I always loved them and always will. I miss and honor their memory everyday.

I LOVE that he doesn't change the "checkout girl" lyric.
  • Damn when the lyrics say "somebody's gotta take care of him so I quit school and that's what I did" me with my 73 year old father who I need to take care of 24/7 ❤
  • What a performance at Grammy's 2024! Definitely my Grammy's 2024 highlights!

Mr Combs, you have honoured Ms Chapman and her song beautifully. Thank you from a longtime Tracy fan.
  • Powerful when Tracy sings it and powerful when Luke sings it. I’m glad this masterpiece is being shown to new generations

One of the most emotional and vulnerable songs ever. Tracy and Luke are the best.
  • My teenaged niece shared this song with me. It’s a favorite of hers and her friends. They hadn’t heard of Tracy Chapman before I shared the original version. We all love them both. Thank you Luke for bringing this song and artist to a new generation. You honor them both.
  • Would love to see Tracy and Luke do this together at the next ACMs!
  • Absolutely love the original. Just heard Luke’s version and it is mighty fine. Now I have two versions to love. Good job Luke!
  • This song hit me hard today. This journey called life, I'm starting to feel the best days are behind. But I keep moving forward.
  • I’m not familiar with you or your music so I assume this landed in my feed because I love this song. I must say you did a spectacular cover of this song. ❤
  • This is a great cover. But NOBODY can do it like Tracy Chapman! Takes me right back to 1988. Hits me right in the feelings
  • Great playlist. I love it! To anybody reading this, I pray that whatever is hurting you or whatever you are constantly stressing about gets better. May the dark thoughts, the overthinking, and the doubt exit your mind may clarity replace confusion. may peace and calmness fill your life
  • This Song brings me back to my youth. It's been 35 years since this song came out, I was 25 years old . This song and the entire album holds a very special place in my heart. Great Job Luke for reviving this very special song .
  • I could never imagine anyone but Tracey Chapman singing this hauntingly beautiful song, but Luke Combs did justice to it!
  • I appreciate very much that he didn't change any lyrics. Often when a cover is done by someone of the opposite sex as the original artist, there are some lyric changes if gender comes up in the song. Luke kept "So I work in the market as a checkout girl" and I love it. I ADORE the original and I love this cover.
  • Luke Combs. Fell in love with you since your first big hit, 'when it rains, it pours'! ❤ Loving all your songs, Luke! I think you'r so awesome and loved it when you sang Tennasee Whiskey!!! Keep on keeping on, my friend❤😊
  • I wish nothing but a huge congratulations to Luke and Tracy Chapman for this cover hitting #1 on country radio. Both versions are great, and to think this is the first country cover of a pop hit to go #1 since 2008 (Blake Shelton's cover of "Home") is crazy!
