Priesthood

There is obviously a priesthood, both a Levitical and Melchizedekian priesthood, in the Old Testament, but what about the New Testament?

Did Jesus establish a priesthood in the Gospels, and if so where?

Many times people will rightly point to the Last Supper as to where Jesus established his New Covenant priesthood to guide his new Covenant Kingdom. However, was that the only place we see his actions indicating that a new priesthood is being established?

Listen to Dr. Pitre explain how the priesthood Jesus inaugurated is made clear through the very sets of disciples he created around himself, which any first century Jew would have picked up on.

Simply awesome. I love how we need to understand the Old Testament in order to fully understand Jesus. He is constantly quoting the scriptures and this is His "family story," and we all know how much better we know someone once we've met their family.
  • I can't live without catholic production.... this is awesome!

  • Incredible explanation of the old versus the new. Great work and very much enjoyable.
  • Also... Some Catholic priests teach that when Jesus washed His disciples' feet it was the fulfillment of Leviticus chapter 8 when Moses washed Aaron and his sons to form the Levitical Priesthood. Christ did not wash His disciples' feet only to be humble and charitable, Christ washed His disciples' feet to fulfill the Levitical Priesthood and establish the New Priesthood in the Covenant of His Blood.
  • Perfectly explained! All part of God's plan through Jesus! Great apologiae for separated brethren. Thank you!
  • You wont get this kinda typology from our other neighbors.. because they despise the priesthood set up by Jesus, especially on Peter's supremacy as the first pope. Never gets bored of this particular typology. Nobody can deny the "coincidences."
  • I mean it dude, you blew my mind This is just the answer to many things I've been wrestling with-and I'm a cradle Catholic recently digging deep to see if I really believe what the church believes as truth. Thank you
