I love how people interpret this song differently. Some people see it as a breakup song for two people who love each other and just are not right for each other. I don't know if you've ever loved someone who struggles with the demons of manic depression but there is a detaching they do when they hit their lows- a pushing away as they wrestle with all of the worst solutions to a battle they feel like they never win. The first time I heard this song, it had me in a ball on the floor. I wanted to call my daughter, immediately, and play it for her. This is what I feel every time she goes to that dark place. I get that this was written from the perspective of two people in a romantic relationship but I will never see it as anything but a mother begging her daughter to just keep holding on. That she doesn't have to go to the dark places alone.

To myself: I know being vulnerable with anyone is so difficult. Remember that it is not your fault. But you owe it to yourself to fight for your own freedom. You deserve to feel safe, to express your emotions, and to love deeply. Do not settle. Push yourself out of your comfort zone and fight for yourself!!
