Fans worldwide fell head over heels for Ben Platt during his Tony® Award-winning turn in the title role of Dear Evan Hansen and on-screen in films such as the Pitch Perfect franchise. Ben achieved superstar status as Evan Hansen in Dear Evan Hansen, originating the lead role. Signed to Atlantic Records by Chairman and C.E.O. Craig Kallman and President of A&R Pete Ganbarg, he explored his formative influences, ranging from timeless singer-songwriters such as Joni Mitchell and Carole King to legendary crooners like Donny Hathaway, Ray Charles, and Stevie Wonder. As a result, the music delivers confessional lyricism by way of soulful intimacy as part of one cohesive narrative on his 2019 full-length debut, Sing To Me Instead. The 12-track album, which was primarily produced by Jenn Decilveo, chronicles the highs and lows of a transformative relationship. Showcasing his story, Ben penned several songs solo and co-wrote the remainder of material alongside the likes of Ben Abraham, Eg White, Nate Cyphert, Michael Pollack, and more.

this captures the innocence of longing for a genuine connection with somebody, but it just not being there. sometimes sparks aren’t meant to fly and that’s the only reason why. it takes time to heal and let go. this is absolutely gorgeous.

This song literally represents the asexual experience when someone you really care falls in love with you. You don’t want to hurt them but you can’t love them the way they want to. And yeah social pressure and everything you “beg your heart to start to race when I’m kissing you” or anyone… That said… the irony that a love song makes asexuals feel represented I can’t 😭

You know how after you read a book, you've essentially lived inside the head of the main characters -- and when you finish the story, you carry with you their life lessons. It's like you've lived this whole story, beginning to end. That's exactly how I feel when I listen to Ben's songs. He's such a fantastic story teller; I can feel what he feels in his lyrics. It's absolutely phenomenal.

I’m an aromantic asexual. My whole life I’ve had to say no, over and over again to people who have liked me in some way. It was terrible; I felt like a horrible person because I was always the one to break peoples hearts simply because I couldn’t feel anything back. This song has helped me to take that feeling and heal, knowing it isn’t anyone’s fault.

This song is so personal for me. My best friend passed away 2 weeks ago. She and I loved Ben, and we made a cover of it together only a week before. We recorded it, and I am so glad we did. This song is the only way I can hear her voice now. Thanks, Ben.
